Traversing the Portals of Reality

[Discovering there was a--a something--in the kitchen hadn't been difficult. Deciding to go in had been moreso, and finally decided when he came to the conclusion that it was the most likely place Iggy would be (as it was the most sinister-seeming). He hadn't wanted to take anyone else with him, remembering what he'd inadvertently done to Feliks last time, and so all he took was a borrowed sword before he slid through the portal.

It felt strange, even if it didn't look different. He started moving on instinct, a gut feeling urging him upward. Fine. He might have been able to leave again, but there was no point in that. He went forward.]

[Toris was startled by the sudden movement until he realized who it was. A bit more surprised when he wheeled around.]

Warren? ...Hello.

[Hopefully he wasn't in trouble for being here. Though that wouldn't have stopped him anyway.]

So a simple cup of tea had turned into wandering into the anomaly in the kitchen. Which had turned into him fending off creepy-crawlies (throwing hot tea in their faces was only a waste when not in mortal peril). Which had then turned into Jane running for his life and ducking into the observatory ( ... )

It should never be said that Edward Elric was one for considering the consequences of his actions. He'd had a gut feeling, and so he'd taken it -- through the creepy-as-hell rift in the kitchen, and then all the way up through the hordes of nasties to the observatory.

When he came through the second anomaly point, he already had a blade extended from his right arm, saving time in case he came across more of those monsters on the other side. Which he did, almost immediately. At least he wasn't alone -- an actual human was there, illuminating the creatures with a light from somewhere. So, that was useful.

(Actually, Ed had been almost right behind Jane without knowing it his entire trip through the first level, but hadn't quite caught up until just now.)

"Great," he grumbled under his breath.

Jane heard footsteps, but they reverberated much louder than normal, making him paranoid about just how large the person was who approached. He really should have taken that self-defense class. If he survives this, Sheppard will get a personal visit.

Jane startled, jumping almost a foot in the air when he heard a voice.

"S-stay back! I'm armed!" he said, cursing himself mentally for letting his nerves cause him to stutter. Like anyone would believe that bluff. Jane swallowed another lump in his throat, hugging the wall and trying not to make eye contact with the creatures stalking him.

[She's more than a little bothered that her powers are not working and she's getting attacked by horrible things. However, years of kung fu can make a a chick rather formidable and she's doing quite well not getting killed. That doesn't mean she's happy about any of this, though. Hoping to come across some means of escape outside, she navigates her way to the pieces of the front doors of the school.]

[Xion's kept her sword out the entire time, but so far nothing's really tried to attack her. She's not exactly grateful for this-- knowing that there's something out there ready to attack and not, even if she can guess why, unnerves her. She'd rather have it come out and fight her, just so she could confront it.

Still, that's not the only thing freaking her out. Darkness, she can handle. Dead bodies? The fact that she stepped on them freaks her out, but she can deal with it at least until she gets out. The static noise, however, is getting to her-- as is the fact that she can't get back. She tried, as soon as she got in, but it didn't work. So she keeps pressing forward, hoping that she'll be able to get out if she goes all the way through it.]

[He had only went to the kitchen for tea. The next thing Izaya knew, he was standing near the edge of the forest, powerless and confused. As adaptable as he was, Izaya didn't like it one bit.

At first, he was reluctant to venture into the forest, and he spent a while slowly pacing on its outskirts, tossing his switchblade from hand to hand.

Suddenly, he started to run towards the light. He hopped over traps, narrowly avoided the rocks and falling trees. It was lucky he had practice with avoiding vending machines.

He stops a little way in, partly to get his breath back and also to mentally gloat.]

[immediately sinks to his knees and starts gasping for breath, his lungs have shrunk and his body is approximately 60 pounds heavier than he is used to. also he is missing limbs; there is a pile of feathers on the floor behind him, and the muscles in his back are rather twitching]

Toris!

[squints around for Torises, suddenly he cannot see half as well]

[Toris's immediate response is in Lithuanian, before he catches himself. Even so, his English has picked up its natural Lithuanian accent, rather heavily.]

Warren--are you alright? Mutations must be--[ugh what is the word he's looking for] not on. [... ... ...] Off!

Maleficent was not at the Institute--for now it was unnecessary, and watching from afar was proving to be great entertainment. Aside from those drawn unwittingly into higher levels, there were the five specifically drawn to maintain this illusion--powerful, or terrified, or just unlucky. She took great interest in watching the worlds they had created for themselves, built of fears and nightmares of their own imagining.

That they were simply suspended in great pillars of darkness was not something they would be aware of, so lost in fighting their own personal demons were they.

(ooc: aka this is where the five characters who are trapped may write one-shots about how their character is doing, describe their world, or request some NPC RPing out of their nightmare)

Alphonse woke up, lying on the floor in some room. Blinking, he slowly sat up a looked around. The last thing he remembered was being at the school and feeling a... a pull to go to a certain place ( ... )

Whatever was chasing him didn't seem to require the light to navigate, or maybe it was simply following the noise the boy was making. It tore holes in the metal surrounding it as it followed, growling unpleasantly and always seeming to be just a breath away from Alphonse's heels, ready to bite them off.

As it turned a corner there was a slick sound, like maybe it was wet. Or bloody. If it was its blood or something it had eaten, though, was uncertain.

He was glad he could move his legs, using them as best he could to help move himself forward, but they were weak and he quickly started to feel the burn of overused muscles. That didn't stop him, though. That... that... whatever it was was still right behind him and adrenaline was still pumping so he kept going, gritting his teeth as the start of terrified tears stung his eyes. He was alone, he couldn't walk, he was in the dark, and in a very very tight place. The vent seemed endless, or at least felt that way. He wasn't sure how far he'd gone but he still hadn't come out into another room yet.

Then suddenly he saw the dimness of a light up ahead... Hope surged through and he kept on going. Light. Let it be a... a door or a vent that led outside or to other people or something.Al scrambled forward and fell through the vent to the floor, turning and plastering himself up against the wall to see if that thing was still following him. He didn't see anything... Taking a few moments to get his breathing under control, he listened. He ( ... )
