The Darkness that Lurks in Our Mind

[He had only went to the kitchen for tea. The next thing Izaya knew, he was standing near the edge of the forest, powerless and confused. As adaptable as he was, Izaya didn't like it one bit.

At first, he was reluctant to venture into the forest, and he spent a while slowly pacing on its outskirts, tossing his switchblade from hand to hand.

Suddenly, he started to run towards the light. He hopped over traps, narrowly avoided the rocks and falling trees. It was lucky he had practice with avoiding vending machines.

He stops a little way in, partly to get his breath back and also to mentally gloat.]

[moneybagsiii]

[immediately sinks to his knees and starts gasping for breath, his lungs have shrunk and his body is approximately 60 pounds heavier than he is used to. also he is missing limbs; there is a pile of feathers on the floor behind him, and the muscles in his back are rather twitching]

Toris!

[squints around for Torises, suddenly he cannot see half as well]

[Toris's immediate response is in Lithuanian, before he catches himself. Even so, his English has picked up its natural Lithuanian accent, rather heavily.]

Warren--are you alright? Mutations must be--[ugh what is the word he's looking for] not on. [... ... ...] Off!

[moneybagsiii]

[deep breaths]

I'm not...it doesn't hurt, if that's what you're asking. [stands up a lil awkwardly, everything is too heavy] I've lost my powers before, I know how to handle it. [it was an awfully long time ago, though, and he's grown a lot more reliant on them since then] We have to climb. [still breathing rather heavily]

[letunityblossom]

Nothing good ever happens when I lose my healing power. [mumbled to himself, though a bit louder than he intended] Doesn't look as if there's much of the--school left.

[moneybagsiii]

Yeah. [moves an arm up and down, slowly, not quite used to how heavy it is] Let's get out of this hole.

[letunityblossom]

[Toris put his hand on a ledge and hoisted himself up with more difficulty than he was used to, without his healing factor to compensate for exertion. Ignoring the small scrapes fast appearing on his arms and hands, he climbs laboriously upward.]

I didn't know I was s-so exhausted.

[moneybagsiii]

Try not to think about it. [walks over to Toris and the wall] I can spot you. [holds his hands up]

[letunityblossom]

[keeps climbing]

[sudden realization of what would happen if he fell]

[moneybagsiii]

[patiently:] Don't worry, I got you. Just keep climbing.

[letunityblossom]

[climb climb climb] I used to do this as a child, I don't know why it's so frightening now. Maybe I rely o. My powers too much.

[moneybagsiii]

It's been a long day. [understatement] You're almost there, just keep climbing. I won't let you get hurt.

[letunityblossom]

[climb climb flop at the top] Maybe we should have a class based around coping without our powers.

[moneybagsiii]

Good idea. [starts climbing] I'll bring it up at the next staff meeting. [climb climb climb]

[watching worriedly while checking around him for creatures] Be careful.
