When you make pie crust please PLEASE have the sense to SMELL YOUR SHORTENING before you commence with making the pastry dough. There are a great many things on this planet that I dislike, one of them being pie crust made with rancid shortening. When I don't pay attention I seem to do better at losing weight.
Shorts that fit a month ago are trying to fall down today.
I suppose this is a good thing, but now that I'm aware of it I'm sure this trend will reverse itself... -

Finished but not yet blocked is the (perhaps ambitiously named) Frost Flowers stole, pattern from String Theory.
Were I to knit this pattern again I would really NOT knit it, because I would give it a total overhaulCenter out square-in-the-round, mitered appropriately

A more limited PSA: it's much easier to hobble about in an orthopedic boot (known in the trade as an AirCast) when one keeps a shoe on the other foot. Doing this reduces the height differential between the booted and unbooted sides of your body, thus reducing the Lurch Effect ( Read more... ) -

My spectacles broke this morning. More correctly one of the lenses broke, probably due to stress, just where the nosepiece is drilled through the lens and epoxied in. So I'm in my "old" Lindberg strip titanium spex with the not-quite-right Rx, but I can see. And I should have my relensed "new" Lindberg Spirit nearly invisible spex back late next ( Read more... ) -

At the used book store was a tall pile of Threads Magazine back issues - including every Starmore issue (Fair Isle, Aran, Shetland lace, a couple of others) and a dozen more containing knitting AND spinning articles of interest.
