A more limited PSA: it's much easier to hobble about in an orthopedic boot (known in the trade as an AirCast) when one keeps a shoe on the other foot. Doing this reduces the height differential between the booted and unbooted sides of your body, thus reducing the Lurch Effect.
So the next time you're fettered with a boot - keep your shoe on at all times!
