Can anyone identify the film this still came from?

He remembers that it came from an old Famous Monsters of Filmland article about the 50 worst horror films ever made.

Oops...

A further search on the phrase "Dante's Inferno" and that image turns up an essay referencing the original Famous Monsters column--which, being written by Joe Dante of later Gremlins fame, was entitled "Dante's Inferno"--somewhat confounding the issue, although the still does seem to have a similar flavor to the images I've brought up from the movie:
