i have a bag of rutabagas that i should use up this week before i go on a 2 week vacation* (as well as that chard and napa cabbage from last week), and probably some tofu as well. and 2 limes. and a couple apples. and 2 ripe bananas. my mom used to peel and boil them and then mash them with margarine and soy milk. really tasty.

Rutabaga is really good when roasted with olive oil, maple syrup, salt and pepper. I mixed it with potatoes (white and sweet), shallots, carrots, turnips and onions for a "root veggie roast" and couldn't really tell the difference between it and the turnip when prepared that way. Which may be a plus or a minus, depending on how brave you are to taste its non-mapley flavor :)
