Here's the deal. The choices here are The Master, Spike, Angel(us), the Mayor, and the Trio. Spike I'm going to exclude from the running because, well, he is Spike and with me he blows everyone else out of the water in all categories. Angel and I have issues (like, how it gets to the point where I can't stand him when he has a soul and adore him when he's evil) so his split-personality is also out. The Master I never particularly liked. The Trio are probably my favorite villains of the entire series (excluding Spike and Drusilla who are both much more than villains when all is said and done)--but I can't pick just one of them it has to be all three of them. How do you top a god as a villain? You make the villains the nerds from high school who were of an even lower social caste than yourself. The villains were just people, and that was the Season Six cynicism talking. I loved that. But, in this particular category, I am going to have to go with the Mayor. The Mayor is such a perfect juxtaposition of extreme evil and grandmotherly prudishness that you cannot help but like the guy. I don't know anyone who hates the Mayor. He seems to be widely regarded as the best villain of the series and Season Three seems to get voted as "the best" an awful lot--mostly because of him. He treats Faith the way the audience wants the screwed up kid to get treated, and he's so blase about his major goal being to essentially take over the world. He's just so much fun to watch and you even want to root for him--even if just to see how in the world our protagonists are going to handle it.
You know, I think I just like all my villains too much.
