It made me pick, so I picked two.
"Normal Again" remains the one episode that freaked me out so much that I had nightmares. I have issues with sanity to begin with and a definite fear of ending up in the crazy house with no one believing me. That's one of the reasons why I write fiction. But BtVS is such a show that it takes your life and swallows it to the point where--if you mainline it like I did, at least--the fiction begins to devour reality. This episode pulled the rug out from under the new reality I had made in my head. I also adored how it poked at all the plot holes that bothered the hell out of me (Dawn, for instance.) And that's probably another reason why it got to me so badly.
Before this episode, things had started to really get into high-gear awesome. "Passion" had me mesmerized, enthralled, in love, desperate to know what was going to happen, and it pretty much kicked off my eternal love and adoration for this show. It had crazed-Giles, evil-Angel, Spike (he doesn't need qualifying adjectives)--everything that made this show so good is here and this is the first time it all came together. I had liked the show a lot before I watched this one. After it, I was lost forever to its thrall.
