[ Well, this is certainly a new development.

The feed starts accidentally while Hannibal is searching through his bag. He notices the red light and pulls out the PokeGear, perplexed. However, when he speaks, he is calm, cool, and collected, as well as polite. He may come off as a complete gentleman, just a nice little old man.

However, if you ( Read more... )

Oh, um... I'm sorry, but... you can't connect to outside of Johto... Well, I haven't heard of anyone who has...

What kind of facility is this? Don't I get my one phone call? [ A bit of a sarcastic, condescending tone. ]

[woosh, right over her head.]

You can make as many phone calls as you like... It's called a Pokegear, and lets you talk to just about anypony...

[ lol he notices that. :( failed joke #1. ]

But none outside of this 'Johto', I presume? [ pause. ]

Excuse me, dear, I don't mean to nitpick your speech, but I believe I heard 'anypony'? [ His tone isn't condescending, but it's definitely not as sincerely curious as it sounds. ]

[Hmm. This reminds him of something, but he's not terribly sure what it may be.]

That woman claims to be every new arrival's mother. I suspect she may be simply reading off a script.

And... I'm afraid there is no way to communicate with other countries. Or worlds, as it may be.

Perhaps, but I've dealt with women like that before. Are there any authorities I can report her to in Johto? She really does need help before she hurts somebody.

[ That ... 'worlds' comment made him pause, and he looks thoughtful for a moment. ] Worlds, you say? As in cultural worlds, or the science fiction 'reality' of different inhabitable planets outside of Earth?

[ Btw, him switching to video is a non-subtle attempt to see his face. :) ]

[Welp, he's not forced to switch!... Yet.]

There seem to be no authorities concerned with mental wellbeing in this place; even if there were, I would doubt their competence.

Yes, I was referring to different... planets, or perhaps even universes. Many people who arrive here had supernatural powers or were even of a different species in their home world.

Ah, how unfortunate for the population here. Who knows what manner of ... insanity could walk among them, and they wouldn't even know. [ Are you getting a shiver down your spine? ]

I assume that, in the context of there being no authorities concerned with the mental state of the inhabitants here, they are not telling the truth. I've encountered individuals who believe they are from a different race or world; I would take anything they say with a grain of salt. Though it seems likely that an event such as arriving in a new place could be damaging to one's mental state, making them believe such ... [ Sharp intake. He was speaking rather quickly before, and as horrifying as he is, he's still an old man who just had a huge amount of stress done on his body coming here. ] things.

[ A pause. ] I would like to see your face, if you don't mind. I don't bite, promise.

[ DON'T TRUST HIM. ]

That's a new way to look at it: I just assumed I was the one who'd gone mad. Explains the change of scenery, you know? But I guess there's no rules against keeping crazy people inside a delusion.

Perhaps. But I suppose even the sanest of individuals are a little mad in situations like this.

You know what they say, only sane people think they're crazy.

Any luck getting through to the States? I've been trying to send a letter for a good month now but I guess the mailman is on vacation.

[ Just a smirk, and nothing more. ]

Not yet. One girl I spoke with informed me that it's impossible for outside contact, but it seems highly improbable. As in any compound or controlled setting, supplies have to come from somewhere. [ Is he convinced this is really a 'new world'? Absolutely-freaking-not. ]

[ Hello, Doctor. Have a well-dressed English gentleman with a smile. ]Welcome to Johto. I'm sure you'll be given some explanation, if you haven't already - in short, we are trapped here, with no ostensible means of escape or communication to any place outside the region. There has been speculation as to our purpose here, how or why we arrived, and potential solutions or paths that may lead to answers, but I imagine you'll hear those in time, as well. None of them, to my knowledge, have borne any fruit thus far. Those who have returned home have done so both accidentally and incidentally to any of their actions here. Our fates, it would seem, are largely out of our hands ( ... )

[ You earn a grin from him. What a great first impression, Sebastian. :) ]

Ah, it seems you really 'know your stuff', as they say. And thank you for the welcome, though I don't plan on staying here for very long. [ pause. ] But I suppose that's said often around here, if we truly are 'trapped', as you say.

How is it possible, for it to not pass while we are here? Time surely has to pass somewhere, unless ... this is some form of limbo. Though I do not remember being in a situation that would cause me to be sent to such a place. And, tell me, do we retain our memories of this place when we return back to our 'worlds'? [ Taking everything with a grain of salt, but you seem like you know your stuff and he likes that. :) ]

[ Sebastian is excellent at first impressions. He dips his head politely at the compliment. ]

I cannot personally confirm whether time passes in our worlds or not, but many others who have come and gone have said as much. It is most likely the case. This would appear to be a sort of pocket dimension, removed from the flow of time - correctly, not unlike Limbo. [ Capital-L-Limbo, no less. ]Speaking from my own experience as well as the anecdotes I have heard from others, I do not believe that our actions prior to our arrival are responsible for our advent here. We appear to be selected entirely at random, drawn by chance from different times and worlds into this... nexus ( ... )

[video] i have a feeling he and hannibal will be tl;dring all day erryday lol usedquidproquo June 26 2011, 19:27:51 UTC
[ Ooh, Hannibal will definitely be keeping tabs on you. ]

Such a strange location for any sort of dimension, in the middle of a 'land filled with mystical creatures'. It seems more like a children's fairy tale, though I suppose it's better than arriving at the gates of Hell or some other unfortunate location. The fact that some come and go, while others simply just 'disappear', is an interesting mystery. It seems possible it could just be 'random', as everything seems to be here, but if there were some meaning to it ... [ The non-cannibal part of him wants to investigate that. ]

For that individual, post-traumatic stress disorder does not seem unlikely in a situation like this, causing him to forget his 'old life' but remember being here. I do hope that memory loss isn't permanent, and that coming here does not change either my biology or anything else. It seems likely that these 'Pokemon' creatures are victims of some sort of radiation or mad scientist. Though, it is also possible that I am over-thinking it. [ Small grin. ]Of ( ... )

She does that to everyone. Think she lacks a real processor.

[The old timer shrugs.]

No way home. To get there or to contact them. That is what the people here tell me.

Processor? [ pause. The woman didn't seem like a robot? ]

Ah, yes. I was told the same, as well. It's a shame, really; I was really looking forward to meeting an old friend.

The... mind. Brain.

No luck. These things only communicate with each other. Nothing else.

[ Oh yes, Hannibal thinks it's interesting that you used processor instead of that. ] Were you a mechanic or engineer? I don't know of anybody else who would refer to it as such.

What about other devices, or is communication limited to just these flimsy things?
