Wilson sat in the OR observation room with his head in his hands. This was all his fault. House wouldn't be here if it wasn't for him. If he had stayed, or if he had come back sooner, maybe this wouldn't have happened. If House died and didn't know that he was sorry… he stopped himself. He just wasn't going to think about that.

He glanced down at his watch; 7 minutes had passed since the last time he looked. He had been in surgery for about 3 hours now. That was 3 hours too long. Every time he heard the slightest noise on the intercom he jumped, only to have it followed by silence. He needed to know what was going on and how House was doing, but he was too afraid to know the answer, scared that it would be bad.

He got up and walked around, hoping that it would make the time go by faster. He didn't go far, afraid that something might happen and he wouldn't know. He sat down after 4 minutes, finding all it did was make him more nervous. He glanced over his shoulder and through the window to the OR that he had turned away from; everything seemed to be okay. Well, as okay as things could be right now.

He needed to now what was going on. He didn't care what the news was. He needed to know. Wilson mustered all the courage he could, and got up, telling himself that he needed to do it, and buzzed down to the OR. The head doctor, Billy Monaghan, told him that as extensive as the damage was, House would be all right. Not anytime soon, but he would be all right.

Wilson took the first real breath since he had found out about the accident. House was going to be okay. He was going to pull through this. They were going to pull through this.

Monaghan stayed on the line with him, informing of some of the things he was doing when he stopped short. Wilson could hear the monitors beeping rapidly and alarms going off in the background and felt pure fear. The intercom went dead, and he knew what was happening. House's heart was stopping.

Wilson tried to look away, the smarter part of his mind telling him that he shouldn't watch, that he should just turn away, but he couldn't. His brain was screaming to look away, begging the rest of his body to comply, but the rest of him was paralyzed in fear.

There was nothing on his mind except hoping, wishing, praying, for House to hold on as he watched. He would do anything to make that happen. He knew he needed him now. It had taken almost losing him for Wilson to realize it, but he knew it now. He couldn't live with out him.

Tears started rolling down his face as he watched them shock House once, twice, three times, and then back into a normal rhythm.

He backed up to a wall and slid down, pulling himself into the fetal position and crying so hard he couldn't breathe. That could have been it. He could have died right there. He tried to steady his breathing, but it was to no avail. He had almost lost him.

After a while Monaghan came over the intercom.

House was out of surgery.
