Похвала фотографии
Два старика на скамье под деревьями: Фет и Полонский,
Седобородые оба, кряжисто-крепкие оба, -
Боже, какие у них пиджачищи, штаны, сапожищи!
Девятнадцатый век, тяжело шагая к закату,
Взращивать пренебрегал «Феокритовы нежные розы» -
Ведь уже и Толстой, Алексей, в лицо рассмеялся стихами
Деве (с разбитою урной), Пушкиным славно воспетой.
Но старики повоюют. Полонский выпрямил плечи,
Жестом ораторским, или «гражданским», руку приподнял,
Зычно сейчас зазвучит надтреснутый старческий голос;
Фету стихи он прочтет, а тот, добродушно нахмурясь,
Приготовляется слушать, сам, в свой черед полагая
Другу еще раз поведать о «шепоте - робком - дыханье»,
Миру всему показав, что музы их живы и юны.
Слава фотографам! Их небожественной матери слава!
Живописцы, ваятели всех веков простодушно старались
Встретить в поэте поэта, явить его миру поэтом.
Редко того достигая, прибегали к нарядам, эмблемам…
Нынче все их потуги пресек правдивый фотограф:
Нас он, лаврам наперекор и всем аллегориям, учит,
Что поэты - люди как люди; разве только, быть может,
Светочувствительней прочих. А свет - и поэзия - в Боге.
