Beast Darkness
Battlesoul Hound
Appearance: A dog-like creature with pitch black sleek fur and glowing reddish orange eyes (some say they are yellow). It stands tall with powerful back legs. A strong creature of the night, dark and stalking powerfully. Sharp teeth with 4 rows full of pointed canines.
Speed: Fast, really fast.
Traits/Powers: Nothing more than a vicious hunger to kill and a set of teeth to do it with. Like the majestic wolf, once its teeth sink in, it gets a death grip to it. It won't let go until one of you is dead, and even then you have to break the jaw after its dead to get it off.
Location: Found in all districts, but a very strong grouping of them in the first five districts has been reported.
Rarity: Common.
Notes: They tend to travel in packs of three, give or take. Never more then 7 at a time it seems. They have also been noted to attack their own kind as well as other Darkness creatures. If one can be confused, it can be directed off onto another target to let you get away.
Corpse Stalker
Appearance: A feline beast, large and foreboding looking, but very much a shadow feel to them; as if they aren't so tangible. But they are real and pack a hard punch when on the move. Cat-like in all features but twisted and dark, mostly hairless save for some mangy patches that always seem soaked in dirt or grease. They have huge jaws and fangs, as well as large paws with sharp shadowy claws. They are very dark, really pitch black.
Speed: Swift and agile, sneaking from shadow to shadow. Almost shadow-like speed.
Traits/Powers: They are almost prophetic, it seems, stalking a living human slowly from a short distance, and it's been said if you actually see it, if it lets you see it, death is certain within the night. 7 times out of 10 that is a fact. Corpse stalkers seem to know who or what will die and when, thus will follow a walking 'corpse' so to speak. They are not known to attack unless attacked first. When in battle they are harsh fighters, ripping head and limbs from torso, and playing with the parts like toys instead of eating them, leaving the parts for others of the Darkness to devour.
Location: Everywhere, but found more in densely populated areas.
Rarity: Normally only seen just before the death of someone, so exact numbers can’t be said. They have been spotted and recorded though. They seem rather uncommon to some and to others fairly common.
Notes: As said before, it’s almost like a prophet, predicting the death of a person, whether you make it home for the night or not, be extra careful, because if you saw it, it might still be right about your death in the night.
Death Deer
![](http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj71/chewilicious/hidden/deathdeerunscaled.jpg)
Appearance: Large, smelly, like a rotting body with multiple sharp pointed arms and sharp horns. Dark, bluish black skin that appears to once have had fur. Its face is bone, a skull face with glowing white-blue eyes. These creatures differ in size. Generally, they appear about as tall as a human to about two times taller. On rare occasion, one can spot a death deer standing above the trees in the 7th sector.
Speed: Depending on its size it can be very fast with bounding steps or fairly slow.
Traits/Powers: The deer itself seems harmless. Leave it alone and it will leave you alone. It’s the fleas running around on and under its skin that you should worry about. See Deer Fleas for more information.
Location: Mostly around the woodland areas, but they can be found grazing in parks through the city as well.
Rarity: It’s only very rare to see an extremely oversized one. When I say very rare I mean very, extremely rare. The last oversized one in record was back in 1982. No one is sure why the large ones appear, but they always leave behind some large hoof tracks in the 7th sector by morning.
Notes: These are not creatures I have put a lot of research in. Any time I have come near one, I have been infected with Deer fleas, which are extremely uncomfortable. From a distance they seem to be deer-like in manner, though I have seen one charge, attack and gore a human as well as other creatures with those horns.

Eightlegs
![](http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj71/chewilicious/hidden/eightlegs.jpg)
Appearance: Like the name says, it has eight legs, four of which are almost always on the ground. Four smaller ones that double as hands. It looks about the size of a large dog, but can sometimes take on the height of a large cow. With a long neck and a longer tail, it seems very awkward in stature. It has a strong back and very muscular body. At its head is a faceless set of three mouths and a very long tongue which it uses for eating. The tail drags on the ground, small lumps showing where its last meal currently sits, digested. From the tip, it secrets a nasty smelling mess disposed from its body trailing after it.
Speed: When running on four legs it can be very fast, but on all eight it moves extremely fast and with better grace. Think Greyhound speeds.
Traits/Powers: Its long and extremely strong tongue can lash out from its mouths and attack from a good distance away. The tongue can move fast and sharp enough to penetrate skin. Once inside it, flattens and spreads out in a flat circle, opening up a tube like siphon that sucks the blood from a body.
Location: Scattered throughout the city. Larger ones tend to walk the perimeter of the city. They roam the poorer districts feeding off local cats and other feral animals they can get their tongues on.
Rarity: Common.
Notes: I have seen this creature stab a person in the chest, in the back, in the neck and in the ear to find points of attachment. It is very hard to survive an attack if it gets inside. If the tongue is sliced off, it will fall out of the persons body unless it is lodged too deeply inside.

Grunders
Appearance: Large beasts towering over 12 feet tall and slender, with small heads and huge shoulders. They walk on all fours, though the front legs look more like arms, and are used as such. Perhaps a bit ape-like at first glance, Grunders also have a rhino like appearance. With tough, thick, ash gray hides, and long horns protruding from their skulls, they have a mean look about them and a short temper.
Speed: Sluggish and slow witted, but once they get running they catch up to speed. They do not make turns well because of this.
Traits/Powers: They are very stupid, large and cumbersome creatures but they are also extremely strong. A swing of a large paw and the wind could be knocked out of you for...ever. Not to mention your head knocked off your shoulders, or your ribs thrown out of your mouth...you get the picture.
Location: The 5th Sector has one in it, near the fair grounds that stands about 17 feet tall and is noted as the largest of them all. There is report of two in the 7th Sector, and 7 or 8 of them in the eastern side of the island.
Rarity: Around 10 of them on the island in general, and not always easily found. They are uncommon-to-rare to run into, but not unheard of.
Notes: Run into one? Take out its eyes. It's dumb and slow in that regard. If you disable its eyes it won't be able to track where you are and will just flail about wildly. With this distraction you can get away. Alternatively, consider this: it doesn't do so well in extreme cold situations.
The Headless
Appearance: A short, squat creature on four lumbering limbs, round like elephant's feet. They have no heads though, none whatsoever. Instead, in the center of their majestic chest is a large gaping mouth that pants a lot, open and hoping to catch something by mistake. Always hungry looking.
Speed: Clumpy and cumbersome, they trample and stomp when they walk or run, but even then they can manage a good speed when they build up momentum. They are not graceful, though, and are easily outmaneuvered.
Traits/Powers: Its grayish body and oozing gashes let off a toxic smell that, if inhaled too much, will cause a normal human to vomit, convulse, and break out into a rash around the face, neck, and chest areas. May cause swelling of the throat and restrict breath. With huge mouths full of blunt and sharp teeth, these creatures try to nom on anything that falls into their mouth.
Location: Heavy in the more populated areas, but can be found on occasion all over the island.
Rarity: Not that rare.
Notes: They drool a lot, secrete noxious smells, are always hungry, and are like a really big stupid puppy in some sorts. They tend to communicate well with Sight Hawks who land on their shoulders and seem to tell them where their next meal is.
Missionworth Lighthouse Serpent
AKA: Ocean Serpent, Missionworth Monster, Lighthouse Guardian, etc
Appearance: A long, draconian body, deep dark gray blue skin with sea green white ‘fur’ running the spine. Its face is long, snout-like, with onyx teeth. It is unknown how large it really is, as the body coils around rocks above and under water. It has at least two huge claw-like front arms, but more legs could be discovered under the water some day. An exact image of this creature is unknown because it is so rare to see the whole thing.
Speed: Unknown. It swims freely in the waters around the lighthouse, which have lots of rocks and crags. It moves fast enough to escape photograph, but the waters around there at night are so bad that it’s hard to get out there to see it. It could be very fast.
Traits/Powers: Unknown
Location: Only ever noticed around Missionworth Lighthouse.
Rarity: Rare enough. Parts of its body can be seen above water here and there, but some nights it’s hard to see anything at all.
Notes: People expect that the creature is the reason the waves are so bad at night in this area. They say there is a treasure to be found at the lighthouse at night, if you can brave the ghosts and creatures that haunt the lighthouse. First you have to be able to get to the lighthouse. That requires knowing where this creature is, and how to avoid it.
Night Mare
![](http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz110/sirenspull/darkness/nightmare.jpg)
AKA: Demon Horse
Appearance: Torso like a horse, hind legs like a hound, tail of a scorpion, claws like a bone crab, insect eyes, horned head. Its body is mostly black and tar like, with matted thin fur on hind legs and scales at it’s neck and tail. It has a small toothless mouth and a large nose.
Speed: Fast and strong. It’s extremely lithe.
Traits/Powers: Fast runner, poison stringer at the end of it’s scorpion tail, claws on it’s hind legs and horns on it’s head. No part of this beast isn’t a danger. Its bone crab like pincers are sharp and pointed for jabbing and extremely strong, known to lop off a human leg with ease. If stung by the tail, a poison seeps into your body and paralyzes you slowly. It does not kill, but if it goes into effect (slowly over 20 minutes or so) while you are out in the night, other things could kill you. If stunned, get indoors ASAP. No medical treatment has been found for this. Paralysis wears off slowly after 17 hours, give or take. They are strangely attracted to dark magic abilities.
Location: Scattered throughout the city. There is a report of a small herd of them running around in the 7th sector but this still goes unconfirmed.
Rarity: Uncommon. It’s not rare but you won’t find many of them around.
Notes: Rumor has it that on very rare occasion a dark figure has been seen riding the back of a Night Mare as if it were a mount. It is unknown what it is other then a transparent shadowy figure of a ‘man’ but this still stands as unconfirmed.
Night Naga
![](http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz110/sirenspull/darkness/nightnaga.jpg)
AKA: Frog Naga
Appearance: Half fat snake, half creature from the underworld. It has a large bulbous head with large eyes to help it see in the darkness. It has a long serpent’s tongue and tiny sharp teeth spaced here and there, made for ripping rather then chewing. Because of it’s fat serpentine body, it looks like it would be slow, but it has next to no bone structure. It can flatten itself through small spaces with ease. They look brown and muddy in color.
Speed: Pretty fast once it gets moving. It pulls itself along with three clawed hands and can flatten it’s body in order to work through small spaces.
Traits/Powers: It has a huge appetite and seems a bit smarter then other creatures in the night. It hunts solo or in packs, though in packs they are much more deadly. They seem to have a hive mind or a silent form of communication. They can flatten their bodies to get through small spaces and can snake around complex areas. They are not good at climbing, however.
Location: In many locations around the port.
Rarity: Uncommon, but not unseen.
Notes: I really just find these things to be pests. They don’t stand up well to any form of elemental magic and a sword or knife can break its skin well enough. Cut its head off, however, and the body will still move for hours after. The head can still bite for a hour or so after detachment...
Rope-faced Dogs
![](http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz110/sirenspull/darkness/ropefaced.jpg)
Appearance: They have the appearance of a very large but sickly looking dog, with powerful front arms and huge clawed front paws. Their hind end sits lower than the front, and their head is thick-skulled and squinty-eyed. Their face, however, has several rope-like tentacles hanging from it, each with individual muscles and control over its own movement. The beasts use these ropes much like an octopus uses its tentacles, reaching out to wrap around something and hauling it into its open mouth. The mouth itself hasn't ever been 'seen' but it is assumed that there is a large amount of sharp teeth hidden away behind the masses of ropes. The ropes are twisted-looking brown fleshy things that seem frayed at the ends. The ends are actually tiny pincers that grasp into the flesh of its victims, to help keep a good grip.
Speed: Above average speed at running speed and blink fast reactions.
Traits/Powers: The ropes on its face jut out and grasp or grab its prey strong enough to pull 400 pounds of weight back to it. The inner jaws seem to be strong enough to break through thick bone.
Location: Scattered through the entire island.
Rarity: Not common but can be found in more urban areas of the island.
Notes: If the beast gets its ropes about you, your best bet is to cut them off with a knife. If the pincers get into your skin you will have to carefully remove them one at a time. Do not let them stay under the skin as the chance of infection is considered much higher if you do. The pincers will bore through the flesh and try to work their way to the heart if left untreated or under the skin.
Rotgut Cougar
Appearance: Feline in appearance, it's almost as if the Darkness left a cat intact, as it has its fur (thought matted and mangy) still. Patches of dead looking skin here and there can be seen. However, the body, its belly seems a bit bloated, a bit rounded as if it’s going to burst.
Speed: Slow, pained steps, growling a lot as it walks. Easy to escape from.
Traits/Powers: There is nothing so fantastic about this beast. It has claws and teeth and acts rather catlike, but the rotting bloated gut it has will burst, every night. Once a night, more often later night then early, the belly of the beast will explode, shooting out several smaller feline like creatures, a litter of 10 to 30 little monstrous kittens that show nearly no mercy in their fight. (See Rotgut Kittens below.)
Location: Mostly in district 1 and 5, but they have been known to wander all over.
Rarity: There are only a few of them in the city at night, but after the night pushes on, ‘Kittens’ will range in the 100’s.
Notes: If you see one run away and do not attack it. Attacking it could cause it to burst much sooner, causing you more problems.
Rotgut Kittens
Appearance: Small kitten-sized critters that break and burst from the belly of their 'mother.' Furless and dripping with blood, guts and rot, they have a single head but sometimes two sets of eyes (four in total) arranged on their heads. Large mouths that look far too big on a kittens face with double rows of teeth. A large wide nose over the jaws always looks as if it's sniffing, trying to check out the smells around it.
Speed: Fast...fast and in packs. Not easy to outrun for a normal human.
Traits/Powers: They run in litters/packs of 10 to 30 just from one 'mother.' Sharp teeth for ripping and nipping, as well as tiny, tiny kitten razor claws on each paw.
Location: Where ever the 'mother' had them is where they will be (See Rotgut Cougar).
Rarity: See Rotgut Cougar.
Notes: These felines are not affected by fire for some reason. It's been reported that they will run ablaze for blocks before they are unable to move again. It's as if they have no pain nerves to them.
Sewer Cow
![](http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz110/sirenspull/darkness/cow.jpg)
AKA: Sewer Bull, Pipe Cows
Appearance: Very bovine in appearance, with hooves for upper hands and long hoofed feet on the end of humanoid legs. The large body could almost be humanoid in classification, but other features mark them as a beast. Horns grow from the skull at the sides, large and sharp. Two huge twisted tusks form its sharp mouth. A long tongue, much like a cows. Small black beady eyes. Its skin is rumpled, thick and with patches of short coarse hair and a long shag of hair on its chin and neck.
Speed: Fast when on all fours, and surprisingly fast in the tight spaces of the sewer systems.
Traits/Powers: Other then being extremely strong and annoying, swift in swamp-like terrain and a hard hitter? Unknown. It’s more of a large herd pest then anything else. There seems to be some form of intelligence in its face, and it will stalk and follow a person home if it catches their scent and likes it.
Location: Sewers mostly. There have been, at times, sightings in the local transit ways but those were either taken care of swiftly or just rumor.
Rarity: Rare to find above ground.
Notes: On occasion I have found a manhole cover to fly from the ground and nearly hit people. I can only assume it is because of these sewer pests attempting to attack or lure a person in. Open manholes are often seen with their beady little eyes and head sticking out and watching for unsuspecting prey.
Skuller Mutt
![](http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz110/sirenspull/darkness/skullersmutt.jpg)
AKA: Bone Heads, Hypno Mutts
Appearance: Skull like face with a long bone muzzle and sharp fang like teeth. Green furred in most lights but to the touch it’s almost slimy, slippery. It feels more like moss or seaweed but looks like fur. Long lanky body with skinny under fed middle. Two darker horns stick backwards from the skull. Each paw has three claws. Its eyes will appear in different colors depending on mood and powers (see powers below).
Speed: Fast as an average dog, sometimes faster.
Traits/Powers: Other then the average dog like traits of running fast good enough grace and speed, these mutts also have a Hypnotic power. The power is in the eyes. The eyes of each dog will change with its mood. Red, orange yellow and blue. If you are lucky the eyes will be black, its natural color. When they are black the creature is no more deadly then a feral wolf. Colored eyes can be a problem, but only if you focus on them for too long.
Red = Stereotypical rage color. The Red Stare will put the person under this gaze into a blind berserk rage for the night, either until the creature is killed or if the person is lucky, until it wears off.
Orange = Moody. Mood swings run in abundance with the Orange Stare. Happy, sad, depressed, angry, hateful, lustful, joyous and so on. The moods are always intense and always swinging very hard. Sometimes it only lasts for a little while while other times it will last all night.
Yellow = Calming and caring, you will want to hug, love and pet the creature, leaving you venerable to it and other creatures attacks. In some cases a person under the influence of a Yellow Stare will love and care for everything or anyone they are with. Consider it drunk on love.
Blue = Need. You just need for everything or something. Blue Stare makes a person need for water, food, love, touch, weapons, money or anything at all. Sometimes a persons needs are simple and easy to deal with. “I need a blanket” and they can not rest until they find one. “I need water” however could take you to the lake and drowned... the effects of this are unexplained still and never seem to make sense. The need is incurable unless the creature is dead or morning comes. People seem to act normal other then this undying need for things.
Black = Normal Natural eyes. Nothing will effect you. Run for your life before they change!
Location: Scattered all over the city, but thicker around the coast lines. Heavier packs live near the crags and cliffs of the island.
Rarity: Common
Notes: How to get out of a hypnotic trance? Kill the mutt. Or have someone else do it. Either that or get out of it’s gaze and lock. Getting inside sometimes helps, but the hypnotic trance may still hold with some powers. By morning a person under the hold should be fine.
IF YOU HAVE experienced different effects or colors, please let me know! There is so much more to learn about these.
