Plant Darkness
Lake Giant
AKA: Swamp Giant, Water Giant
Appearance: They stand anywhere from 12 to 20 feet tall on two fat round legs, with a large square body and two huge fat arms. Their shoulders are like small rounds of land with its head hunched over between them. They stand in deep waters, around either of the two large lakes and in some cases smaller ponds. Completely submerged other then their shoulders and the top of their head, they look like mysterious tiny land masses with grass and dirt growing on them. Underwater, the grass like fur flows on water moss. They stand very still. On the top of their head, appearing to be trapped on the center landmass, sits a little naked girl or boy, or sometimes a creature like a dog or cow. This looks and sounds like a crying or wounded animal trying to get away. They are extremely plant-like, and seem to be built of dirt, moss and vines.
Speed: Unknown. They are never seen on land. Underwater however, they appear slow.
Traits/Powers: The child or creature that appears stuck on the top of the creatures head will cry and whine and whimper as if hurt, luring in people to assist it. When a person is close enough, the child will reach out plant like arms and grab their prey, dragging it beneath the water to be drowned and eaten. The moss and vines of the Giant will ensnare a person and nourish itself on the dead body.
Location: Winthers and Versaid Lake. Sometimes smaller ones will be found in ponds here and there.
Rarity: Rare. There is perhaps one at Versaid and three at Winters lake. A verity of sizes. They only come close to the shore lines when they are looking for a meal.
Notes: They are tricky, large plants but they seem to be rather dumb and easy to escape. A knife can cut through the vines if you find yourself tangled up in them.
Pods
AKA: Pod People
Appearance: When closed, it looks like a split lima bean with root-like legs. Dark greenish in color with an earthy brown body. When open a humanoid torso can be found, long root-like arms and a dead, pale face. From its head, shoots, roots and vines snare and entangle.
Speed: When closed, the creature moves at a snails pace. When open, it takes on humanoid running speed, sometimes faster if in earthy terrain.
Traits/Powers: Strong vines tangle and ensnare its victims. Its strong hands are hard to break. It pulls its prey into the split domed shell and uses a slimy chemical to break down and process the still living body into fertilizer. This fertilizer seems to help the creatures grow a bit more each night.
Location: Sector 7, mostly. The forests and farm lands. Some can be found in the 5th and 6th sectors in the orchards or around the lakes. They can also be found in the City Parks and playgrounds.
Rarity: Common in earthy areas.
Notes: I have had many of notes about the creatures “phallic” appearance and though I pretend not to see it I do. Thank you to all those who texted me about this. It’s noted. Also, these are more plant like creatures then humanoid so I’ve placed it in a different category.
Pox Pollen Mushroom
AKA: Death Head Mushrooms
Appearance: Ranging from two feet tall to four feet tall, these oversized mushrooms are bone white with yellow, orange or red bulbous growths sprouting from their tops. Their stems are thick and fibrous, with hundreds of little roots that act like tiny legs.
Speed: Slow. Very slow. They almost appear to be rooted where they stand, but when they move it’s slow and careful.
Traits/Powers: The pockets or colored bumps will grow and swell, exploding when they are too big or if they are disturbed. The spores from inside these pockets are deadly, causing almost immediate hallucinations, itching and burning sensations of the flesh and vomiting. This condition will last through the night and most of the next morning unless treated. If not treated, the hallucinations can come back off and on for a good month before clearing the system completely. Yellow gives a stronger dose of hallucinogen then the other two. Orange makes a person vomit more then the others and red leans more towards the burning physical sensations. All three will give all symptoms but the colors can determine which is worse. The spores and gas can float and are air born.
Location: Very heavy in the 7th, 5th and northern island sectors, though they can be found all through the city..
Rarity: Common
Notes: Doctor Hildan Landers of Skye Medical center discovered a three day treatment for Pox Pollen Mushrooms, using the stem of the mushroom for the antigen. However it can only be administered at night and must be done at the same time for three days before the effects will wear off completely. If you find yourself or a friend infected with Pox Pollen, go to Skye Hospital as soon as possible. Antidotes have been distributed to all medical facilities, but Landers still works at Skye and likes to keep a report on every care for further research reasons. There is a rumor that the yellow spores have been harvested to make a hallucinogenic drug.
Stumps
AKA:Tree Stumps, Saplings
Appearance: The lower half looks like a tree, a dark black-brown tree stump made of wood and tar. They have many long roots or legs that dig into the ground and push them forward. There are no arms. The top of the trunk or stump has a head. The face has long, soft, nostril-less nose and lips, like a horse, with two large round black eyes. The top of the head seems a bit spiked and hard, like wood.
Speed: Very slow. Rarely moves.
Traits/Powers: Strong roots are able to take a subject and ensnare it, pulling it under the earth and feeding off it. The root legs are extremely strong and when cut regenerate back.
Location: Sector 7 and other wooded areas. Grayson’s Orchards. Some parks and fields. Heavy around the lakes and forests.
Rarity: Uncommon.
Notes: They seem peaceful. Leave them alone and they will leave you alone. They have a haunting look to their face which almost brings comfort when looking at them, but they will make a grab at a person if they get too close. Avoidance is key.
Venus Assault Trap
AKA: Fly Traps
Appearance: Large, very large! Over 12 to 17 feet in length from head to tip of its tail. It stands on six small soft feet and one fat, long, slug-like body. There is a sharp, bony tail at the end with three pincher forks. At the center of the tail is a bulbous globe that looks like brownish water, with a light inside. The head is a large flat ‘fly trap’ that opens and closes with feelers that tighten around its own head to help trap its prey inside. Although classified as plant-like, it has a thick hide of grayish brown skin.
Speed: Slow. Its tiny feet and huge body don’t move fast over the ground, but in dirt and grass it tends to undulate a bit faster. The average human can outrun it easily enough.
Traits/Powers: Its strong trap of a head and mouth can capture and expand, holding a human of average size with ease. It has very strong skin and it is hard to cut the head apart, but its middle body segment is soft. The pincers on its tail are sharp and strong, capturing its prey with a vise grip, breaking it or lifting it up into the mouth. The brownish water in the tail is actually a numbing secretion used while digesting its victim, made to numb the captured in an endless cycle.
Location: Found all over. Higher concentration of creatures found in the Orchards and the industrial areas.
Rarity: Common
Notes: They’re really a pain in the ass to deal with, but not as deadly as some others if you can avoid it. It doesn’t take turns well, so never go in a straight line when running away.
Vicious Pod
Appearance: Eggplant purple in color, this bulbous plant pod sits from one to three feet tall with a long rope-like tongue that is about the same length as the pod’s body. A double set of teeth line the large mouth. Large leaves lay around the base and unfold when the creature is awake.
Speed: Fast tongue and mouth, but super slow when trying to move across land masses. Its body tends to be too heavy to move properly.
Traits/Powers: With its rope-like tongue it grabs its kill, wraps around it and hauls it into its large rubbery mouth, devouring its meal swiftly as one could imagine. No poisons or gases or any other treatment. Just one very hungry, snappy plant.
Location: Anywhere.
Rarity: Common
Notes: Knives don’t work so well on their tongues. If it grabs hold of you try, to slide off of its teeth or mouth. Its a bit rubbery, but can be sliced. The tongue, however, is practically steel.
