Kiss me at midnight, dance until the morning light.

If there was one thing Devon knew about a good New Year's Eve party, it was when to keep an eye on the clock and to get everyone's attention. He'd stuck close to Ellie five minutes to, and when the last minute began to tick away and nobody had done anything about it, he decided to take on the mantle ( Read more... )

Now, where there's a wall, there's a way and Peter has been lurking about one just waiting for midnight to arrive and he leans over to grasp at Lionel's wrist when it happens to come towards the fact. He doesn't pull him, he simply gets his attention before easing back to stand by his lonesome. Waiting. Waiting coyly, he hopes.

Lionel's been looking for Peter for the past minute himself, and he's annoyed for all of two seconds before he realizes Peter's found him first.

"Hey," he says, breaking into a grin. "There you are."

Peter leans back against the wall, an eyebrow raising invitingly, wanting Lionel to join him. "Here I am," he agrees, tugging Lionel closer by the wrist and gently pressing his lips to the other man's. Gently, of course, lasting for all of a few seconds before Peter's determined that he wants more.

Lionel doesn't object to either, which only adds to the slight champagne buzz he's acquired over the past few hours. "Hey," he says, breaking away with a slight pant as it occurs to him that the clock actually has struck midnight. "Happy New Year."

Now this was awkward--so many people, so very little time. At least I knew I looked lonely, if anything, and I was still upright and coherent, so that was something. Besides, I'd had some water.

There were a few people I'd wanted to kiss, that was true, but...I could deal with someone else. Maybe.

"Woo! Happy New Year's!" said Elliot who, by that point, was very drunk. One rum and coke had turned into two which had turned into three which had turned into something weird with an umbrella in it.

Why do they put umbrellas in drinks anyway? Are they afraid they'll get wet? she wondered, then noticed who it was she was toasting.

"Oh! Hey, Remy! Sup? Is it kissing time yet?" Chuck was around here somewhere, she knew...

"Hey, Elliot!" I replied, for some reason kind of excited to see her. Not that I wouldn't be glad to see her usually, but more than usual. "Yeah, in maybe half a minute. Nice umbrella."

"Someone has an umbrella?" Elliot repeated, confused. "You shouldn't open them inside, they're bad luck and you could put an eye out - oh," she realized, looking at her drink. "You mean this. Thanks, I think. I don't even know what this drink is except it tastes very...tropical. It's probably a Sex on the Beach," she said. "I've never had Sex on the Beach, so I wouldn't know what it's like. Have you ever had Sex on the Beach?"

Robin had been drinking every since the Jukebox From Hell had made her do about five renditions of Let's Go To The Mall and now it was nearing midnight apparently and she had her glass of Scotch and was pretty keen on it if no one else was going to be around (she really, really ought to find Winters, but her brain was kicking in slowly and this fact was just hovering in her consciousness). "You and me, baby," she sighed quietly.

There's about thirty seconds left until midnight, and as I scan the room I see the person I'm looking for, not too far away. Straightening my collar unnecessarily, I go over and step up behind her, a little like she'd done to me at the beginning of the night, but instead of putting my arms around her I just lean in to speak closer to her ear.

"It's almost midnight," I say softly, and walk around to face her with a crooked smile.

Robin knew that there were very few things that could cheer her up, but the man coming to find her for that midnight kiss ranked pretty high up there and she couldn't help but soften and grin warmly. "God, I am so grateful to see you," she said, completely honestly. "I've had kind of a rough New Years' Eve and right now, a midnight kiss would very much make it better."

My smile fades into a frown at that, and I put a hand to her shoulder. "Is everything all right?" I ask, even as everyone around us is counting down from ten.

It felt quite like the fairytales she had read about. Midnight would come and then depart and she would return home to Lydia and a life much more quiet than this. No more wines, no more foods. Simply peace and respite. It did not mean she would not marvel at the joy that came from such a gathering and it did her well to see the love of the place.

Anne approached her from the side, almost apprehensively-- a strange look for her who had always been bold. She let the back of her hand brush the back of Jane's hand just enough to let her know she was there.

"There is a custom," she began.

Jane regarded Anne curiously, her heart racing slightly as she wondered if perhaps, just perhaps, this was the same custom that Jane was thinking of. "Oh?" she asked, feeling as though she were running short upon breath.

"I would not presume, in front of a crowd, to do such a thing," Anne said, but looked up with a gleam in her eyes. "Without permission."

Sarah Jane had her own little mission and that happened to be finding someone (a particular someone if she had any luck) in order to kiss at midnight. She was rather short, so it was a mite hard to scan the crowd, but she was pushing her way through as she heard the countdown, an 'excuse me!' here and there to be heard.

Casey was having a pretty good time with his buddy Jim Beam, but when the announcement came that it was about to be midnight, he remembered that there was someplace he had intended to be.

He heard her before he saw her, which was typical.

"Happy New Year," he said.

"There you are," she accused slightly, glad to have found him with a couple of seconds to spare. It gave her the time to bounce on the balls of her feet and propel herself up the distance between their bodies, sealing her lips to his just in time for the 3, 2, 1...

"Here I am," Casey said agreeably, and then there was counting and then kissing that he hadn't had a chance to get around to starting himself. Not that he objected or anything, but he usually liked to have a little more buildup.
