With a little time to slow down, everything that had happened in the past twenty four hours was really catching up to Ellie. The ring on her finger kept glinting in the sunlight that was filtering in through the trees, and she found herself looking at it once she finally sat down to take a breather before the party really got underway.

She had people to seek out specifically, and she would do that soon. For the moment, she enjoyed the glass of juice she had poured herself. It would be a good day.

Sarah Jane had seen the notice and had been caught by the name of the hostess in particular, so she'd crept down to the party when it was in full swing. Eventually, she had to find her by sake of description and questions alone and made it to a rather promising young woman. "Would you happen to be Ellie?" she wondered curiously.

Ellie glanced up when the woman wandered up to her, and she smiled as she stood up. With people showing up now, she knew she'd be on her feet the rest of the day.

"That's me," she said, offering her hand for the other woman to shake. "Thank you for coming to the party. I hope you have a good time."

Sarah brightly smiled as she shook her hand, happy to put a face to a name and all. "Bartowski, right?" she very carefully pronounced it, so it wouldn't go awry. "I've had the interesting pleasure of meeting your brother a few times."

The cookies had been taunting Sally for what seemed like hours. The way they just sat there and telling her to inhale them and they could just write off the calories as 'stress'. She barely even thought about the fact that the alcohol she was drinking to aid and abet her contemplation was probably equivalent to the caloric value of the sweets.

Thoughtfully, she continued to stare at the cookies, pointing at them with one of the pieces of vegetables from her plate. "You won't get me," she assured the inanimate objects.

And she wasn't even sufficiently drunk yet.

Joe wanders through the party, wondering if he's getting in the way of something. He sticks to the tables, figuring he can follow them to the other side of whatever the hell's going on without bothering anyone.

And there, if she wasn't mistaken, was the source of her utter trouble for days on end and Sally abandoned the table to stalk right over to him, staring him up and down. "You're incredibly lucky you don't get slapped more often," was all she said in greeting.

He blinks at her, pretty sure he's never seen this lady in his life, although the tone is oddly familiar. "Uh, thanks?" He's not sure how he could've offended someone he's never met.

People definitely liked their little get-togethers and parties around here, Robin was getting the feeling. Not that she was complaining because it was like being at MacLaren's with more catering (and good stuff, at that, as she ate a couple of things in her plate that she was definitely not asking about).

The only thing that would improve on everything though would be a beer. A pitcher of it. A glorious, beautiful, overflowing, amber, frothing pitcher of beer.

"You know," Ray commented as he came up on Robin's left, "I'm not a huge beer drinker or anything, but I could really go for a Sam Adams right about now."

"I swear to god, you are reading my mind," Robin assured him with a yearning look at all the bottles that weren't beer around them. "Though, for me, maybe a nice Canadian pale ale? Alexander Keith's, for sure."

"A pale ale would be good too," Ray agreed. "Although I think the only Canadian beer I've ever had was Molson's."

It seemed that even between her constant determinations to keep herself busy, people were helping out with the myriad of social events and Sarah Jane had been happy to put on a pair of slacks and a decent top and make her way to yet another one of them.

After all, at least this time everyone appeared to be themselves, not mourning anything in particular, and were sane (as sane as people became in general).

Chase had wanted to stay in his room for most of the day, but seeing as that probably would get frowned on and called 'antisocial', he figured he'd go out for a walk. And then when he was walking, there'd been this and so he was sitting down and poking at food there and being antisocial in public instead of antisocial at home and he just wished that for once, just once, there would be some weird form of Island asshattery that didn't involve the people he loved.

"Why are you here?" Sirius asked, without so much as a hello. He had a cup of something fruity held in one hand, and took a casual sip as he watched Chase from over the top of it. "You look bloody miserable."

Chase couldn't help the quiet scoff because Sirius had always had perfect timing when it came to knowing when he was at his most...not vulnerable. Maybe pissy? "Being in public is better than brooding at home," was the extent of his answer. "Besides, if I wasn't here, you couldn't talk to me like this, could you?" he offered, with faint wryness in his tone.

"Oh, so you came to see me?" Sirius asked with a cocky smirk. "Good thing I decided to pop in. Would've hated to disappoint." He reached down and plucked a bit of fruit from Chase's plate. "Is it too early in the conversation to suggest we get out of here?" he asked without backing away, and popped the fruit in his mouth.
