For those of us on private prescriptions for hormones (or anything else)  I just wanted to share some easily missed news that last month Superdrug announced it will be charging trade prices on private prescriptions.

I just got quoted one box of Testogel at £32; versus supermarket prices at £45-£50 and local chemists/ Dr Curtis at £50 - £55.

I've got the impression from hunting around on the web that some of the shrinks at CXH also have private practices. If anyone has any experience of seeing one of them as a private patient, I'd be very interested in hearing from you. I was looking into something which was mentioned in a reply to an old post of mine, namely the possibility of getting the NHS to fund appointments with the private Transhealth clinic in London.

I just wondered if anyone who had pulled off this feat could give me some pointers in how to cajole my GP into requesting this from the local PCT?

Yesterday I got a copy of a letter from Dr Lenihan at Charing Cross to my GP about my last appointment. This is the most pertinent section:
"Mr [lastname] had a private bilateral mastectomy carried out in San Francisco by Dr Brownstein on 28th March 2006. There was no psychiatric/psychological endorsement for this surgery... This surgery would ( Read more... )

Got a letter from my GP this morning. He has confirmed that I can't get NHS speech therapy locally, and says if I want an NHS referral then it'll have to be an out-of-area referral via the Charing Cross GIC. Has any of you been able to get one of their surgeries (I'm FTM and thinking of chest surgery in particular, but I'd like to hear about any one) funded by the NHS without attending a gender clinic? I'm going private for my hormones, but I don't have nearly enough money to consider going private for chest surgery right now.
