My local PBS lifestyle channel (cooking, crafts, travel) is running an "Ice Cream Saturdae" marathon. I don't know why I find this funny.

I thought they were done for the day when they started showing an episode of Rick Steves' Europe in which he travels to Rome...but nope, he ate some gelato! That totally counts!

Yesterday I remembered that I had two zucchini sitting in the back of my fridge's vegetable drawer, so I decided to try something I'd read about in a couple of cookbooks, pasta with sauteed garlic and grated zucchini. Bleh. Stonyfield has added stevia to its nonfat "smooth and creamy" yogurt (the peach flavor, at least), and you can tell. It has a slightly artificial taste now, which I suppose is ironic.

Back to trying to write and panic at the same time, I guess.

Midnight snack (well, almost midnight): steam-sauteed baby arugula. (Guess who went to the grocery store today?) So good - it's unexpectedly rich and savory. Sometimes I add some parmesan, but it doesn't really need it.

You know, I just don't understand how it is that bull's blood was supposed to purify and whiten sugar. It must have worked, or people would have stopped doing it, but I don't see how. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND YOU, RENAISSANCE FOOD TECHNIQUES!
