RIP Ursula Le Guin
Woke up to the news of Ursula Le Guin's death. I'm heartbroken; she's one of my favorite authors, and her books are magical to me. I could re-read her Earthsea trilogy over and over and never tire of it. The Left Hand of Darkness and The Dispossesed also left a big impression. The worst is over
After a week, firefighters have finally gained the upper hand. I just unpacked the car. Mom is safe at the East Bay facility where they evacuated to, and where they will be for probably several weeks. Unbelievably, their facility was unharmed, although the surrounding neighborhoods were mostly destroyed in the fire and there is extensive smoke ( Read more... ) -
Quick fire update
We are still okay. My sister and I went down to Berkeley yesterday to check on our mom, and she is in good hands. I plan to go down again, probably tomorrow, to take her some extra clothes. Fear! Fire! Foes!
Northern California is burning. I am not in any danger so far; however, we are still waiting for news of our mother. Her assisted-living facility was evacuated early this morning. Their website tells us where they evactuated to, but so far we haven't been contacted. I've called a few times, but can't get through. Best thing to do is to sit tight ( Read more... ) -
