After a week, firefighters have finally gained the upper hand. I just unpacked the car. Mom is safe at the East Bay facility where they evacuated to, and where they will be for probably several weeks. Unbelievably, their facility was unharmed, although the surrounding neighborhoods were mostly destroyed in the fire and there is extensive smoke

Sorry to hear about your mum, that's awful for her, and awful for you seeing her like that. At least she has somewhere closer to go back to, even if it needs to be refurnished and painted first.

The restaurants sound good, you definitely need to give yourself some care and de-stressing.

Things have smoothed out a lot lately! Mom is getting back to her old self somewhat, but we've put her on hospice care since she can't stand or walk, and is a fall risk. Sometimes it seems like she could go any day, other times she seems like she could hang on for quite a while.

I have been doing a lot of baking lately, maybe that's how I deal with stress lol. Not great for the waistline.
