Kurt's explorations finally bring him to the 11th floor! Took long enough. After spending some time just acclimating to the new stage area, he is hit with something of a wonderful idea ( Read more... )

Well, Kurt didn't expect this to go easily, if experience is any indication. So he's not discouraged in the least. In fact, he responds as if this club is the most obvious solution to every problem ever.

"Yes, a glee club." He pauses and, after taking a closer look at Stefan, decides to add, "by the way, the laws of the high school social hierarchy are moot here, so we don't even need to go that route."

"Glee isn't just a high school thing." Kurt resists the urge to roll his eyes.

"Look at this city. I mean, we arrive in a metal ball, and not even a Gaga-esque head turner of a metal ball. A plain metal ball, and that's as good of a testament as any as to how incredibly unimaginative this place is. People need art and an ability to inspire people and to be inspired. That's what makes them people. Every big moment in history came from an expression of and interaction between cultural values. I am just giving them one way to access that."

Quinn can't help but grin upon seeing Kurt's visual. Her vampire investigation could wait a little bit, right?

"Just as long as we don't have to sing Journey," she smiles, already on her way to the playhouse.

It was good to see Quinn grin. Kurt smiles easily.

"No Journey. I am temporarily banning Journey. And also rap. I hope you have a number selected already?"

"Thank God! I've got a few, actually," Quinn admits. "What about you?"

"Honestly, did you even need to ask? I could do an entire medley on cue. Care to give me a hint on yours? Or am I in a spoiler free zone? "

[This confuses Stefen. You and all your fancy new terminology...]

What's a...a glee club?

A glee club is a musical ensemble that performs short songs, often an assortment of classic choral music, sometimes in competition. More contemporary clubs like the one I am trying to start aren't as strict about their musical genre and stylings and often just do whatever strikes their fancy.

It sounds interesting, but I don't think I'd know any of the same songs you do.

That's the beauty of it! We can all bring our own knowledge to the table and share. It's like a tiny melting pot of musical culture. I already have copies of sheet music for my song selections ready, even.

"You mean like choir, or a talent showcase?"

Mystic Falls is more of a football and history town, and while Elena's always been involved with dance and cheerleading, at least up until recently, she's always been impressed with the musical performances the clubs in school (and occasionally the societies in town) put on.

"Yes! A little bit of both, actually. The way it was run at my old high school worked really well and I want to carry it ahead to Taxon's glee club. People would prepare their own performances to do for the group, but we also did numbers together on stage."

Kurt stops himself from rambling too much--he just has a lot of feelings about these clubs. He smiles, polite and unassuming, "So, can I count on your participation? Or at least your face in the audience one day?"

"Definitely the second thing, if not the first," she says with a nod. "I might try it, though. Except I'm not sure how good of a singer I am."

"I don't expect anyone here to be professional material. Improving will come with time. I still feel a twinge of embarrassment when I remember what I sounded like at my first audition, but that's just between you and me. Just come and give it a shot."

Alexis couldn't help staring at the... enthusiastic introduction. She wasn't really one for that kind of performing, but she did play the violin. And it had been something she was still looking to find a way to practice. Still, she wasn't about to offer, not just yet. But she was curious.

"Do you... do this often?"

Kurt peers at her curiously. The question has him completely baffled. "Do what often?"

She gestured at the stage and the playhouse behind Kurt. "Sing. Audition. Perform," she answered. "Isn't it exhausting?"

Of course, it might just be watching one diva-licious Broadway grandma rehearse that was the exhausting part.

"Well, yes, of course. And it is sometimes exhausting, but it's always worth it. Everybody loves a moment in the spotlight. Even if they don't know it yet." He is looking very pointedly at you, Alexis.

"Besides!" He grins and places his free hand on his chest, "I have gifts, and it is my duty to share them."
