I'm starting to feel better, probably more because I am anticipating the medication working than because it's actually had much effect on the infection itself. I got quite a bit of sleep too.

Late this afternoon, I finished taking the last of the 18 boxes of floorboards out of the boxes, inspecting them, stacking the good (or good enough) boards in one pile, and stacking the not-so-good ones in another pile. This morning, "J" had planned to attend a Meet-up, but the host wasn't feeling well and canceled. If there had been a back-up host the Meet-up could have gone ahead, but the host hadn't planned for that.

Although I got up at a fairly typical hour this morning, I was really sleepy, after working very late into the night on preparations for our Oscars party. About all I was up for this morning was breakfast, and then I went back to sleep.

I came across a recommendation that one could learn everything one needed to know about orchestration from the book Principles of Orchestration by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (completed by his son-in-law Maximilian Steinberg). Although I suspect that's a bit of an exaggeration, my impression of the book so far is that it's about as much as I can ( Read more... )

I did a whole lot of music composition research, but it was as much procrastination as learning. I'll get back to the actual composition before long, I promise myself.

This morning, "J" and I had a short visit from "A". As usual, it was nice to see her.
In the afternoon, we ran a couple of errands, then picked up a take-out dinner from our current favorite Indian restaurant.

I wrote more material for my musical composition. I was mostly finding more ways to orchestrate riffs that I already have than actually creating new elements, but assembling things together in new ways still takes quite a bit of creative energy.

I worked quite a bit on the under-deck ceiling, and I think I'm ready to call it finished, with the exception of a permanent latch mechanism to hold the ceiling panels in their normal almost-horizontal position, while still allowing it to be occasionally disconnected for cleaning.
