Today I made another floor texture tool, just like the one I described yesterday. The rest of the day was a lot of ordinary Saturday activities, and some packing for upcoming travel.

Today I started work on a long procrastinated floor repair, making a tool to give a floor patch a good texture match. It's just a bunch of strips of cardboard glued together; my idea is that the parallel edges of the cardboard strips will roughen the surface of the patch in the direction of the grain of the floorboards.

Today, "J" and I went to three more SIFF press screenings. The third was a dud, and worse, it overlapped just enough with something that sounded better that we weren't able to go to the (presumably) better film. Now that our garden is starting to bloom, "J" and I are starting to notice the state of the garden. One thing we neglected last growing season is that harsh weather damaged the frame that supports the bird netting over our blueberries. Today I pretty much finished my stairway skirt board trim design work. It looks like a shop-built cutting guide would help for the curved cuts, but I'll have to experiment, when it's time to do the actual physical work on the project.
I also gave "T" a ride to his favorite hangout in Bellevue.

Today I did a lot of routine stuff around the house. When not busy with that, I did some more design work on the stairway skirt board trim project.

Today I spent a lot of time on a new project: adding trim to the sides of the stairs where I removed the outer skirt board to make way for the bamboo stairway floorboards. I didn't get any actual cutting done, just design work.

This morning I hammered in the final nail for my bamboo flooring project. And it wasn't an ordinary nail; it was the Golden Nail. It wasn't real gold, of course, but it was painted to look gold for the video.
I also did some work on the writing project, but it was somewhat frustrated by a slow computer.

For Sunday brunch, we went to a new (to us) Italian restaurant. Also present were M, N, J, and W. It was good, but the aisles were a bit narrow.
We had a visit from "L"; she and J did lots of cooking together, including a delicious soup that used cashews as a cream substitute.

For lunchtime dinner, "J" made Saigon noodles from scratch. It was an experimental recipe, and we both agree that it was a success, except that it was a lot of work.
I did more floor work. I trimmed the spline in the edge of the heat vent frame so that it actually fit; it had been a bit too long. I nailed down quite a few boards, cutting end ( Read more... )
