Mandarin Collar Corset

I posted last week asking for advice on my mockup - well, here's the final.  I ended up wearing it to renfest (it worked, even though it's not period).

I want to make another version that's more steampunky.  this one works for steampunk, particularly for a sky pirate or something, but i think it could be better.  i've learned a few things making ( Read more... )

okay, about those wrinkles:
Where is it boned? only at the seams? If it is only boned at the seams, you likely need more boning.
It looks like your bust may be pushing the corset down a bit? and I apologize for this, but I think you need a bit more support there.

I like it! but why didn't you post a back view?

yeah, you're not wrong about support. i tried to make a shelf/built-in bra in my shirt so i wouldn't have to wear another, but that didn't work too well. :( better support will help the pushing-down issue. unfortunately i realized this problem after we'd gotten there and i cinched the corset tighter, so i just had to get over it. :-/

boning is only in the seams - i can sew on casings to the lining and add additional boning - tedious as they will be hand sewn, but i think you're right about that, too.

no back pics because no one took one! i'm going to renfest again in a couple of weeks - i'll fix up the boning/support issues and get a back photo then! the back is probably my favorite part, too. ;P

You need boning in the very centerfront, and then again between CF and the next seam at bare minimum ( ... )

It's a lovely corset, and really unique-fantastic job! What kind of boning did you use for this-spring steel? I'm afraid I'm not yet ambitious enough to sew my own corsets, so I have great admirations for those who do. :)
