Mandarin Collar Corset

I posted last week asking for advice on my mockup - well, here's the final.  I ended up wearing it to renfest (it worked, even though it's not period).

I want to make another version that's more steampunky.  this one works for steampunk, particularly for a sky pirate or something, but i think it could be better.  i've learned a few things making it and am ready for round 2!  for this one, i used 2oz black leather.  that stuff is a b**** to sew using my normal machines and with my lack of experience using leather.   For the steamier one, i'm wanting to use a distressed brown faux leather with gold/brassy accents and make a few changes stylistically too - buckles on the straps and *maybe* a busk in the front.  as is, it's a pain to get on and an even bigger pain to get off.  :P   the corset also managed to wrinkle throughout the day, and i'm still trying to figure out why - i've got 1/4" steel spring boning, which might not be enough for the thicker material, maybe?  it would also be fun to do this in a cool brocade instead of leather as well.

(Please pardon my "it's almost 90º and close to the end of the day and i haven't had enough cider" face)
