I had an opportunity to re-visit the John Muir desk today.  It seems a fine example of how close steampunk is to the potential of those years.  Also, it makes me feel like a lazy bum for purchasing a device to get me out of bed in the morning,, rather than whittling one.

The more I learn about Muir, the more awesome he gets! Back in 1969 a company doing computer analysis of sounds pointed out that the shape of a landscape is encoded in the sound of the wind passing through it. But Muir had already noticed that, decades earlier....
