I had an opportunity to re-visit the
John Muir desk today. It seems a fine example of how close steampunk is to the potential of those years. Also, it makes me feel like a lazy bum for purchasing a device to get me out of bed in the morning,, rather than whittling one.
Anyway, if you're near Madison, I highly recommend checking it out. It's in the historical society building on the UW campus, across the mall from the library. Walk in the main doors and turn right; it's in a glass case in the hall.
(This isn't really a fashion post, but it seems like this is the most active steampunk LJ community by far. Feel free to tell me where to go - so to speak - for more gadget-oriented posts.)
