There is something about living nextdoor to an elderly assisted living home that puts everything into some form of perspective. To see, as I leave for work, members wandering through the minimal gardens, families picking up parents and grandparents for weekend outings, and even the weekly ambulance or two. It sucks to be a minority within a minority, I now see. I also think I know what issue I would push for the hardest if I do switch into advocacy for civil/immigration rights. I went out for a walk this evening; just got back. It wasn't a long walk, just about 14 blocks west, one block south, then back up. The sun had set, but there was still a halo along the horizon, which lent a soft glow my surroundings. It also made everything foreign. So for Memorial Day, I went down to the beach with Jesse to a BBQ we were invited to. Afterwards, we randomly invited folks - many of whom we hardly knew - over to our place for drinks, foozball, etc. It was a bit chaotic, but fun. I'll be keeping my eye on this immigration bill that will be moving through the House and Senate in the coming weeks. I havent read the bill yet, but the articles suggest that it is making some aspects of immigration laws more leniant (recognizing people's skills and educational background) and will acknowledge and provide opportunities for ( Read more... )
