HOST Table: Open forgingtorch October 30 2011, 02:58:45 UTC
[After a zombie waitress has just retrieved the empty glass in front of her, Elaine adjusts her silk cape, shifting on her seat slightly.]

Do you think the cloak was a little... over the top?

[She asks, jokingly, to Morpheus and whoever has decided to join them. From his family or hers.]

[ He arrived some time ago, a subtle presence maneuvering about the vast crowd with ease. Hooded and cloaked, the face beneath is hidden -- for show more than anything else.

When he passes by, the slightest of smiles tilts the corner of his mouth. He does not speak, merely inclines his head, acknowledging the hosts.

You know him, don't you? ]

[ Elaine's smile grows larger when she spots him. Of course she recognises him without a second glance. She knows as well as he does that their bodies are just convenient projections of how they wish to appear. ]

Hey -- Sit with us.

[ She's right. Real and tangible though this form may be, it is far from his true face.

Hands folded within his robes, his voice is softer, but mostly the same. ]

You honor me.

[Cassandra has off for the night and she's definitely going to use tonight for herself. She has cuts that'll be scars one day thanks to the fight with Sylar the night before, but they're bandaged and handled. She's grateful that the worse of them, a slice across her back, is concealed by the dress she wears. The mask she has on isn't like the one she wears every night as Black Bat (as she resorts to a cowl most times) but it, too, conceals a few of the minor cuts. A thread of black lace around her wrist disguises another cut.

She wonders what people would say if they could see. But then, she never cared too much if people knew her identity...so long as it didn't lead back to Batman and Bruce Wayne.

She loves what Elaine has done to the place, and she marvels at it quietly while she watches people talk and dance.]

There's some argument at the line to get in about what counts as a mask- the costume certainly has a head, but the boy's face is visible where the monster's jaws part.

It's too cumbersome to get into the costume and fumble around into his pockets for ID, so when the bouncers give him a suspicious look and ask for it, he glances behind at the long line of people still waiting to get in before darkness falls, then reluctantly just holds his hand out for a wristband, pulling his oversized purple-yellow sleeves over to conceal it once he's passed the door-mummy.

The costume looks pretty cool, straight out of Halloweentown, but Joe's been finding it a little more bulky and cumbersome than he'd hoped, particularly the horns and wings, which people seem bent on bumping into more than he's anticipated (and he might have taken out a passing tray of hors d'oeurves or two, on a quick turnaround.)

After a third or fourth 'sorry!' He crosses paths with a girl that manages to slide out of the way before getting stuck on his wingspan.Great party ( ... )

[She narrowly avoids being clipped by one of his wings, surprised to see such an elaborate costume at a party like this. Cass blinks at him a moment. She recognizes him from the network. Joe. She gives him a small smile and a dip of her head.]

Yeah. It's nice.

[She's never been to something so big.]

What's your costume?

Ghost band's really cool, aren't they? I'm going to have to ask Elaine where she booked them from.

I'm a Gargoyle!

[He grins through the jagged "mouth", raising his long cloth 'clawed' hands in a playfully menacing gesture.]

What about you?

[A lot of these costumes look more like Prom-With-Masks... or at least Joe thinks so. But then, his idea of Halloween is a bit less swanky in general.]

[Hitsugaya isn't quite sure how he got railroaded into coming here. Yes, Elaine had invited him personally -- when Matsumoto had still been here, damn it -- but that was hardly a guarantee of his attendance. But then there had been the conversation with Maya yesterday that had begun with him telling her to stay in bed until she felt better and then somehow ended with him promising to do something for Halloween.

[He may not understand how it got to that point, but a promise is a promise. But something he hadn't promised was a costume, and thus he is dressed normally. Because he doesn't see the point in dressing up like an idiot. Some things are just over the line for him, even if being costume-free here makes him look more conspicuous ( ... )

And who're you supposed to be?

[ Grell had bought an extremely skimpy, pink kitty cat costume for this affair. But Will had nixed it (at least for wearing outside of their flat!), so Grell has made do with a short skirt, a basket, and a red hood. ]

Hmmm, let me guess!

[ He makes a show of thinking... ]

I know!

You're an INSUFFERABLE BORE!

[If he knew about that, Hitsugaya would have to thank William for sparing everyone's eyes the horror. Even so, Grell coming up and speaking to him already has him regretting that he attended.]

Good for you. And seeing as you find me so insufferable, you'd probably find it more enjoyable to stop speaking with me. [Hint: Go. Away.]

No doubt~!

[ Grell bends over, ostensibly to speak to Hitsugaya - but really to show off his bright red, frilly panties, under his skirt. ]

But the question remains - what're you doing here at all? Aren't you far too ~serious~ for this sort of affair?

[She really shouldn't be here, she knows. This week has been long and tiring, and the last thing she really should be doing is going to a big party like this. But, truth be told, she knows she'll feel better if she gets out and socializes, if she just continues to life. Wallowing in pity and grief won't do anything for her. She just has to do her best to have a good time tonight.

She's a little sad that Lucifer isn't here. She would have enjoyed his company tonight. It was only a year ago that he invited her to the Lux he first had, and she's sure he'd have a pearl of wisdom or two for her now that Edgeworth's gone. She'll just have to go without the Devil this time.

She's wearing a simple dress, her hair is tied back, and she has an intricately woven mask to top it all off. And the costume part? She has her black wings out, pressed against her back to keep people from bumping into them, but they can easily pass for interesting accessories. No one has to know they're real. She doubts anyone will suspect, anyway, unless they know her ( ... )

[And guess who was giving you a little wave back?

As soon as Rochelle spotted a familiar friend she walked right up to her, drink in hand was well. Her actual Halloween costume she decided to save for a few more days. It was Halloween enough, but it felt a little too cheesy for something like this. ... As creeped out as she slightly was. The dresses she already owned didn't exactly scream "masquerade", but she managed to pick something out a little more fitting with a mask to go with it. Nevertheless she could tell Re-l did a better job than she did, and those accesories were pretty interesting.]

He-llo.

Hi. You look amazing, Rochelle.

[Rochelle downs her drink and brights at the compliment.]

Seriously? [In all honesty she was flattered. She didn't lack the confidence but pulling off the old fashioned kind of elegance was new for her. It showed in a smile and a laugh.] Thanks. I actually wasn't sure if it was 'masquerade' enough, but... hah. I say you pull it off better, though.

[Leaning a bit she notes the wings with a nod.] So that's your costume?

[Meant in a way that Ro was wondering if Re-l had set an entirely different costume just for the occasion.]

[Misato's thankful to have the night off from security duty at SERO with the promise that she'll work on Halloween. Fine by her- the chance to go to a real party and not another bridal shower or rehearsal dinner or any other wedding related party was something she couldn't pass up. Plus it would take her mind off things and what better way to celebrate getting her normal alcohol taste beds back than with some champagne and dancing?

She's dressed in a red and black ballgown with a matching Harlequin mask, although her trademark purple hair, even when pulled up and out of the way is unrecognizable and she's making no real plans to hide her identity

Of course, any excitement she had fades instantly. The spectacle's all a bit too much for her, so she's flopped in an unladylike fashion at a table and drinking champagne, watching the rest of the party.]

[And when Rochelle spotted a familiar face she didn't want to pass up the chance to say hello.

It was the first real party she'd been to in a while, and Rochelle was glad to take up the opportunity to get a little fancy and mingle with friends. While incredibly fancy wasn't Rochelle's usual style (not as much as Nick, if anything), she didn't do half bad. A black dress with a mask to go with it was what she chose, though she could tell Misato did a whole lot better than she did. Taking a few folds of the gown carefully as not to mess up the rest of herself, Rochelle pulled up a seat, paused, and gave Misato a gentle tap.]

Still with us?

[Misato downs the last of her champagne.] Unfortunately. I almost forgot how... [Gee, what's the word she's looking for her?] boring these fancy parties can be. Although, I'll give it this much- I won't have to sit through another speech about how "tomorrow we might all be dead, so let's embrace what we have."

I take it you're not having fun, then. [Rochelle resting her arms on the table and leaned forward, still looking at Misato.] I go to them a rough estimate of never, so I don't think it's that bad, but. If it helps anything, you look good.
