There's some argument at the line to get in about what counts as a mask- the costume certainly has a head, but the boy's face is visible where the monster's jaws part.

It's too cumbersome to get into the costume and fumble around into his pockets for ID, so when the bouncers give him a suspicious look and ask for it, he glances behind at the long line of people still waiting to get in before darkness falls, then reluctantly just holds his hand out for a wristband, pulling his oversized purple-yellow sleeves over to conceal it once he's passed the door-mummy.

The costume looks pretty cool, straight out of Halloweentown, but Joe's been finding it a little more bulky and cumbersome than he'd hoped, particularly the horns and wings, which people seem bent on bumping into more than he's anticipated (and he might have taken out a passing tray of hors d'oeurves or two, on a quick turnaround.)

After a third or fourth 'sorry!' He crosses paths with a girl that manages to slide out of the way before getting stuck on his wingspan.

Great party, huh? Merlotte's couldn't whip up anything this fancy.

[She narrowly avoids being clipped by one of his wings, surprised to see such an elaborate costume at a party like this. Cass blinks at him a moment. She recognizes him from the network. Joe. She gives him a small smile and a dip of her head.]

Yeah. It's nice.

[She's never been to something so big.]

What's your costume?

Ghost band's really cool, aren't they? I'm going to have to ask Elaine where she booked them from.

I'm a Gargoyle!

[He grins through the jagged "mouth", raising his long cloth 'clawed' hands in a playfully menacing gesture.]

What about you?

[A lot of these costumes look more like Prom-With-Masks... or at least Joe thinks so. But then, his idea of Halloween is a bit less swanky in general.]

[She nods. She steps back to look at him.]

It's cool.

[It really is. She didn't have time to find a costume.]

Just a dress. No time for a costume.

[And because she wears enough costumes usually.]

No time?

[Who didn't make time for finding Halloween Costumes?]

I work two jobs...

[He shrugs, seeming genuinely confused at that excuse.]

What do you do?

[Good question.]

Two jobs. And a family. I look after them.

[Oops, did she just act like they were all children in her care...?]

And making sure they eat. And sleep.

What, you don't trust them to sleep? Or eat by themselves? Are they little kids, or old people?

They...work a lot. Forget to take care of themselves.

Forget?

[He frowns in sympathy, wondering if he forgets about those things, and realizes this conversation has gotten far too serious for a party.]

So, ah....You do look nice, though! Even if it's not a costume.
