☣ o15; [video]

[The video feed starts with a screen of bright blue; one that only shows itself to be something other than a technical error when a wisp of white rare to the sky today peeks into view. The microphone rumbles with the breeze whipping across it. After a moment of this, things seem to calm, and the camera is turned on Kazuhiko's face ( Read more... )

Kazuhiko... I'm glad you're alright. I've already called off the searchers. What's your condition?

[Kimihiko's voice holds traces of relief, but otherwise, everything is dimmed. The mask fixed firmly in place to hide his feelings and thoughts. Is Kazuhiko if observant, he might notice the man seems discomforted. It's for this reason he's focusing on voice rather than face.]

This world isn't quite all that different from ours. Maybe the technology and faces are, but in the end... it's always the same. Does it worry you?

Thank you for putting so much effort forward, Ooe-san. I truly appreciate it. [A pause.] Two non-fatal gunshots, but I'm with Liquid Snake now... Urick brought me here. So I'm fine.

[The unease is noticed and the information filed away.] It does worry me.

It's a relief to hear, I'll admit that much. You were gone four days after all.

[Yet again, there is silence in the background. Kimihiko himself takes a moment or two to respond.] What makes someone inhuman... I'm not sure. I doubt anyone really is inhuman.

But if we take "inhuman" to be "unsalvageable"... Probably at the point at which they refuse to accept reason in their path. Up to a point, anyone can probably be dissuaded from their course. But once that point is crossed, they're fixed.

Who was Machi? A friend?

I apologize for causing you strife.

[With each uncharacteristic pause, it makes Kazuhiko's level of worry rise.] That is what I feel, but then there are things that happen to contradict that thinking.

Machi Isono, yes. She is someone who helped me a lot, more than I can ever repay.

[Liquid is downstairs when he notices it. He wouldn't have cared - Kazuhiko has the right to the use of his own NV after all - if he had not noticed the video. That was the sky. Kazuhiko was outside? At the least he's grateful for the angle of the video; it kept the location hidden. However, that still meant that the man was exerting himself while he was meant to be recovering.

He heads to the room without a thought, hoping that's where the man is and that he hasn't just gone wandering.]

Kazuhiko Amamiya.

[His voice could probably chill a fire.]

[Only slightly affected by the cold tone, he waits a minute before responding evenly.]

Yes?

You're meant to be resting.

[Liquid looms over him, his expression carefully blank to supress his worry.]

After the amount of bloodloss you endured, recovery should be your first priority. If you'd wanted to come up here I could have escorted you to make sure you were alright.

I am resting. I only wanted to get some air. [There's no particularly emotional tone in his voice. A nonchalant and honest answer.]

I am here, aren't I? [An awkward little smile.] I can make it up one flight of stairs on my own, Liquid Snake.

Urick did, hm?

I suppose that he would. There is no one else who I would wish to help you more than him. Do you think that he is perfect, as well? You can see it, too, can't you, Kazuhiko?

And all these thoughts ... who gave them to you?

... furthermore, who is Machi?

I didn't meet him myself other than by name. [Meaning he was either not active or too disoriented with pain to properly address someone.] But he is definitely a very good person, to have done what he did.

[A beat. And a half answer.] They're something I've been thinking on since I arrived here.

Machi is someone important to me from my world. She's done a lot for me.

[Slowly getting the hang of this book...]

When a person is not human any longer?

[A new voice.]

You sound like you don't believe something like that is possible.

I do. But some people can go through outward changes that make them "inhuman" far before any inward changes occur.

I was curious as to what your definition of "inhuman" was.

Does an inhuman physical appearance lead toward an inhuman heart and mind in your view?

I can't seem to settle myself on an opinion that is not contradicted at one point or another. I believe that there is something good and decent in everyone, despite past choices and actions. But as for a state of being and the transition... I'm not sure.

So then you believe that someone can be inhuman- a beast or monster or some other being of negative connotation- and that they were always and will always be such?

[Oh...] A werewolf. My understanding of the legend is that it's something that is afflicted on another. It seems your situation is something different.

And how would you differentiate between insanity and a "functional monster"? What does it take to be included in those categories?
