Hermione winced as they stepped through the door. "Did I hit your head?" Charlie asked worriedly.
"Just a little tiny bit." Hermione kissed his cheek. "You didn't have to carry me over the threshold."
He made a dismissive noise. "Of course I have to carry you. We're newlyweds and I'd regret it if I didn't."
"I don't want you putting your back out, that's all. I'd like to have you in full working order - it is our wedding night, after all." Hermione looked down at the floor. "Speaking of which, you can put me down now, Charlie. We're inside."
Charlie blushed slightly, setting Hermione's feet gently down on the ground. The silky cream material of her robes swished around her ankles and Charlie stepped back, taking in her appearance with a very appreciative glance. "I felt like I couldn't breathe when I saw you arrive. I think you quite literally took my breath away. So beautiful."
His fingers brushed her cheek as she started to blush. "I thought you looked very handsome, too," Hermione said softly. She understood what Charlie meant, though, remembering how she had just gone numb with shock when she had looked down the aisle at him. The reality of the situation had struck her wholly then, and she had nearly forgotten how to walk. She couldn't remember walking down the aisle.
"You looked so stunning that I couldn't believe you wanted to marry me, a scruffy dragon trainer who..."
Hermione kissed him. "Don't be so silly," she murmured. "Of course I wanted to marry you. I have married you." She bit her lip. "It still doesn't feel real. That sounds so stupid. But... do you know what I mean?" She held up her hands, looking at them. "Am I still shaking? I felt stunned all the way through the reception."
Charlie fingered the delicate pearl necklace that was hanging around her neck. "I know exactly what you mean." He kissed her forehead, then her cheeks. "We're home now, though. The Weasley residence." He smiled. "Shall we go and make it feel more real?"
"Yeah. We're home," she repeated. The idea of Charlie being her husband was only just sinking in and she was sure that the butterflies in her stomach were worse now than before the ceremony.
"We are. We're married too."
"We're grown up."
Charlie pulled a face. "I wouldn't go that far. We don't have to grow up unless we want to. And I don't want to."
Hermione sighed as Charlie twisted a loose curl around his finger. "I feel like a big chapter in my life is over. The end."
"Doesn't that just mean that a new chapter is beginning?" Charlie teased with a smile, thinking how typical it was for Hermione to compare her life with a book. He took her hand, squeezing gently, thumb running over her wedding ring.
"I suppose."
"Well, then. Let's go and get this chapter started with a bang, shall we?" He grinned. "So to speak."
