The American friend I met for lunch today asked if I liked okra. I was aware it had a difficult reputation, like brussels sprouts (bleugh), but didn't even really know what it looked like. She told me it was a mucilaginous vegetable, so I prepared to be a brave guest, but she cooked it so it wasn't slimy and I really liked it.

On the 25th of April, Australia and New Zealand commemorate Anzac Day to remember the army corps' losses in the 1915 Gallipoli campaign and all soldier deaths subsequent to that. George Monbiot wrote about the food crisis in his weekly column for The Guardian newspaper yesterday.
While 100m tonnes of food will be diverted this year to feed cars, 760m tonnes will be snatched from the mouths of humans to feed animals - which could cover the global food deficit 14 times. If you care about hunger, eat less meat.

Anyone else feeling the urge to turn vegan?

Fed to Dutchman so far:

Hokey pokey ice cream - vanilla ice cream with little round bits of toffee. Not a fan myself tbh, but Wingnut liked it.
