ANZAC Biscuit Recipe

On the 25th of April, Australia and New Zealand commemorate Anzac Day to remember the army corps' losses in the 1915 Gallipoli campaign and all soldier deaths subsequent to that. The biscuits in that photograph are not proper Australian-style ANZAC biscuits. The recipe might be identical, but proper ANZAC biscuits are (a) a lot larger by radius, and (b) burnt. They aren't supposed to be golden brown all over; they should be part golden brown, part charcoal black. Anything else is a forgery.

Oh, dear, you have reminded me of the time when I used to wind up an Australian colleague by reciting the following (WWI vintage) rhyme:

We are the ragtime army,
The A-N-Z-A-C:
We will not drill
We cannot fight
What bloody good are we?
