I know Merlin has been a dragonlord for about a minute, but I really wish they would show his powers and magic to be a bit more consistent. The end of S2 was spine-tinglingly good and now Merlin is being thwarted by chains bought from a medieval B&Q, couldn't beat a bunch of bones apparently and did nothing about the siege. Being a dragonlord isn't proving all that useful apparently.

That said, my one smidgen of hope is how Merlin never seemed in the remotest danger during the Morgana face-off in the crypt, it may have been how Colin played it, but it just seemed like he was toying with her for fun, rather than her truly challenging him on any level..and oddly, as a result of this episode, I found Uberconfident!Merlin is phenomenally hot.

Also? Morgana really blew it when she said that Merlin couldn't understand what it was like to have magic. Complete fail there, Seer...

I saw that, too. Merlin's been practicing his magic since his first week in Camelot (and unoffically before that, right?), add on to that this whole ~*~gap year~*~ he's had to practice his magic and Dragonlord skills; it's undoubtedly cannon that he would be more powerful than her (Plus, Morgana doesn't seem to be all to confident with magic despite her having a year to practice, too. She still fights with a sword? Obviously her talents aren't as well trained...) and was just playing along until he could do magic without her seeing.

I believe Morgana said her magic was weak when she met Morgause and recieved the Rowan staff.

A whole year and her magic is still weak...I wonder if we will see her doing any at all. Like last year she blew up a vase and caused a fire and then exhibited no magical traits at all for the rest of the season. Not even her old dreams of the future.

Merlin doesn't return home at night.

Gaius therefore assumes he is with Arthur.

He did not go and see Arthur before to see if Merlin was with him.

Therefore he knows they mustn't have wanted to be disturbed.

Canon proof yes?

Fantastic logic. I had the same thoughts going through my head during that scene.

(Also, Arthur has no britches to wear? Sad day in Camelot. Sad.)

No, I don't think he should. While he doesn't tell her, he will always hold the power in the fight between the two of them. It's the case that he knows all about her, but she knows nothing about him - if she did know, he would be dead by the end of the day probably, but as she doesn't, he will always win.

[Although it surprises me that she hasn't already told Uther about Merlin trying to kill her. What better way of getting rid of the thorn in your side? She seems unremarkably unconcerned about everyone else in Camelot, so why is she protecting Merlin in this way?]

And no, there is no other way ultimately - it's her destiny being the one and future enemy of Camelot, being written in the legends and all of that.

I agree. He needs to keep it secret from her. This was the woman who has threatened to get him killed.

And I was surprised she hadn't told Uther already. I am wondering what her motives are there.

She is too stupid to see what a big threat he is? He has thwarted Morgause and her at every turn, yet because of class & hierarchy they still think he isn't capable because he is a "simple servant". Yet a simple peasant was born with the most power of all time.

The pickled eggs scene was adorable and hilarious. It made me laugh more than the other comic relief scenes they've thrown at us, and those ones were more overt. KEEP IT TO SIMPLE HUMOUR, KTHX. That was lovely comedic timing.

Much better humour I thought. They can write decent Merlin/Arthur humour without resorting to buckets.

Merlin knows what Arthur's like when he hasn't had his breakfast. Nice sweet humour.

THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL. I love how their most poignant scenes don't have any background music, just total silence. I DON'T THINK I BREATHED, OKAY. The pause before Arthur said except that it is, I just. UNF.

This was a really lovely scene, but how that contrasted with Arthur throwing things at Merlin's head a little earlier, shows how delightfully trippy this show is when it comes to characterisations...

I honestly think the reasons that these scenes tend to work so well is that it isn't remotely a stretch from their real-life relationship, which appears to be more honest and heart-felt than the degrading banter we see between their characters.
