I didn't watch the preview (they give too much away! my husband and I cover up our ears and sing loudly until we can find the stop button), but I am curious what has so many people saying "DNW" about it. this is the canon that brought us farting, dung-eating trolls.
I know it isn't wise to take the dragon's word as gospel, but when he said Merlin's determination to see the goodness in people would be his undoing? CHILLS. I thought it'd be fun to speculate on what he could be referring to besides Morgana. Mordred? The Gwen/Lancelot betrayal?
Also: Arthur sitting in the throne and being a total badass during the battle. Merlin and Arthur watching the approaching army from overhead. Incredibly epic shots.
He certainly will probably want to still see the good in people he would otherwise call enemies. I think he still wants to see the good in Morgana despite the fact he's supposedly learnt that lesson.
I hadn't thought about Gwen/Lancelot but yeah I don't think he could ever see two people he thought of as good bettray Arthur like that. As Merlin hinself never would no matter how much it hurt or what the cost.
Hmmmm now I wonder if perhaps Merlin wants to see the good in people that he tries to live by. If he wouldn't consider something he doesn't why anyone else would.
Anyway I am also thinking that Merlin's ultimate fate will be to be betrayed by someone he trusts and sees the good in. Whether he's enchanted into a cave or a tree or what in the legends he is betrayed by someone he thinks is good.
My theory: I think in the year-we-haven't seen, Arthur has been teaching Merlin some sword skills (which explains why he wasn't so hopeless in this episode despite two fights), and in return Merlin lets him watch while he lunges and thrusts..
I really enjoyed this episode. A great mix of humor and drama. I liked how badass Morgana was, esp. in her armor. I thought it was funny when Uther said that Morgana had saved the day. Oh, Merlin, how do you get into these things.

It's ironic such a relatively light show is based on such a dark full of angst and mostly depresssing endings canon.
