Thanks to Supanova, I won a double pass to see Circus Oz last night. This performance was tagged steampunk for the audience, and there were so many in costume that it was great to see.  Sadly I forgot to hand my camera to someone for the mega group photo.

I ordered the unpainted version of the 7th doctor's sonic as I figured the cost of paint would be cheaper.  It's the last sonic screwdriver that the 7th doc uses, and Paul McGann's Dr continues to use it.

Here's a progress shot of the fascinator - stage 1.  I covered the base with overlapped leaves, and will add a paper fan & lots of flowers.  It's asymetric on the head, which I want.  I'm going to cover the satin headband with hot pink ribbon that tones with the kimono top.  There are glimpses of the bound edge of the base in the photos, though I'm ( Read more... )

just over a week ago crafttclifford, costumeaholic and I went on the late spring Spirit of Distinction.  I'd abandoned ideas of steamifying my wa-loli and went with my now too large but beloved lobster bustle.  It was a baking hot day 36C in Penrith where I was meeting up with the others to get changed etc.  anyhoo, it prompted me to realise that I need shorter steampunk as ( Read more... )

The last time I caught up with chastangela I found myself buying some fabric for an 1840s dress, hopefully one that I'll steampunk.  There was only 6m left on the roll which might not be quite enough for 1840s, in which case I'll use it for part of a bustle.  Now it was only a week or so later that I realised it reminds me of a teatowel I have.  ( Read more... )

Last night after work I hustled to get to lincraft before it closed so I could get some fabric for a steam bustle skirt to go with my wa loli.  I got  a great shade of green.  Also visited Jaycar to get a new powercord for my little red netbook. I'm wondering if I can steam up my wa-loli.   Here's a post with a decent pic.  The corset is almost too big now, but I could rustle up a new midcalf bustle underskirt, use a bustle pad and try some steamy accessories. maybe perhaps.

My catch up lunch with a friend I hadnt' seen for ages has been cancelled, so now I can go to Spirit of Distinction.  a steampunk event on a steam train near Lithgow.   They organise it around 3 a year and it's the first time I can get to it.

Huzzah, though my lobster is too big, I might see if I can mod something else together by then.
