Part of the ongoing learning to let go of things, I think I'm going to toss the dodo inspired bustle. It needs so much re-working that I doubt I'm going to get it done, partly cos I'm not sure that it's going to suit me even after I make all the changes.

I'd rather put that much effort into making something new that *will* work.

A bodgy use of paint to try to see if changing the neckline and hem of the bodice, as well as changing the skirt front panel to brown makes enough of a difference for me to be happy, and it is.  Plus I'm going to soak the dye in the darkest teal I can find .... I didn't get the headpiece done, but even so I'm wildly unimpressed with my costume.  I'd possibly be happier if I'd got the orange spats finished as well, buuuuut I suspect not.  There are too many not-happy-withs for me.  I overlooked a basic rule that angular details suit me better than curves. I made one mistake pleating the front section onto the waistband, but didn't realise until it was done. Don't have time to fix it today, but will before it gets worn again.  I even found the earrings and switch them to sterling silver hooks. must get sleeep

My work day started with getting off the bus due to motion sickness!!  How many years has that been. Even a bad inter-island ferry trip that gave many sea-sickness just made sleeping on the floor harder.  This driver was such a jabby lurching driver.  Srsly, learn to drive smoothly dude!

my lovely tatted earrings got put somewhere safe. Somewhere they're safe from use too it appears.  I'm hoping to find them tonight or Friday night, cos I have hypoallergenic hooks to switch out on them.  The earrings motivated me to get this costume finished, and to think I might not get to wear them on the inaugural outing saddens me just a little

I'm getting closer, and not busting a gut to get it done. If I want balance in my life, I have be more balanced.

I'm using the same sleeves as my regency ball gown, and this time took a photo when I'd chalked them in place

Last night I didn't exactly stick to the plan, although I got stuff done.  Dyeing the lace was problematic.  The dye packet said beige. So I expected to fairly soon have a cream-ish lace and be a happy camper.  Except I actually began to suspect that some smart^ss had switched the sachets within packets.  Either that or dye changes colour if unused ( Read more... )

erm, missed noting down a couple of valuable steps, like attaching the sleeves, facing and hemming the bodice. AND buttons/buttonholes for closing the bodice!

Bodice:
- dye wide trim  TUE
- cut neck facing  TUE
- cut out sleeves  TUE
- seam sleeves WED
- gathering threads on sleeves WED
- attach facing WED
- baste waist tape at seams FRI

Well on the way to the Dr's tonight my energy pack hit empty.   So when I got home I had to lie down.  I'm not pushing it either. I'll get enough done to be wearable.
