Is Facebook the new LJ? I always thought of LJ as the first in constant social updating and conversations that weren't email. It's like your own topic forum, complete with available responses and the ability to comment. But, where is everyone? My con friends seem so far away right now, albeit I could text, but it's nice to pop on here and see ( Read more... )

I have a facebook as well, but I see it like you do. Mostly family and some real life friends, people I don't want to see all my thoughts and views. I am much more comfortable sharing my thoughts and everyday stuff with my LJ friends than I would be with those who know me outside the net.

I for one, am happy you still choose to update. I love seeing what all my LJ friends are up to, because I have been talking with most of you for YEARS.

And awesome on the snuggie! Too cool

YEARS!!! I still recall our fieldtrip to the Ren Fair in Boston and Brie and her sister Lyssa were cracking EVERYONE around them up while reciting lines from SpaceBalls! LOL!

Yep! And that was literally right before I found out I was pregnant with my first son, who is now 4 1/2 years old!

Facebook is like a casual open house party, good for keeping up with the basics of everyone's lives, while LJ is for much more in depths windows into their lives and for conversations worth having. I find they complement each other so well.

Nicely put! I definitely agree with your assessment.

... well, except for the "s" after in depth, d'oh! ... but I do use the two together. I don't update much here on LJ, but I read everyone still and write when I feel I have something to say ;-)

Oh, that's alright, no one here is grading your grammar... not today, at least. Maybe tomorrow ;-) I do the same as you - I find that LJ is great when I have a lot to say or really need to vent. Facebook is for the nonsense that I feel like posting just so some folks know that I am still alive.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! But yeah, seems like everyone's abandoned LJ lately. Hardly anyone is bothering to update any more, while I'm seeing practically everyone over there. I still prefer doing my long postings here and leaving over there for games. Sad, but I've gotten addicted to the games...they're free (though I do wonder how many people are funnelling real money into them since I'm looking at the larger farms wondering how people actually get all those barns and hundreds of animals without since I'm sufficiently high in level and I still can't afford that stuff). ...

You are right, it does seem like many have disappeared from LJ - heck, I'm guilty of it myself and now that I am back I see a few of my old friends are gone. FB does get you with the games, they are way too addicting. But most times, the meaningless tripe that people post in their status updates just annoys me. Then I come back to LJ to read fun stories and posts by people that have some personality.
