I f-loved that "Giving Good Beta" workshop thing. I didn't know you hung out in the SPN fandom! How awesome is that? I just started watching the show and reading fic a couple of months ago and...and...ideas keep floating into my head for writing but SPN fangirls terrify me. XD

But yes, that was a super awesome article. She did a great job writing it, as one would expect, and I loved the honesty. It's just so cool, the business of creating and polishing that goes on in fandoms. And I always wondered what a proper beta did, so yes! Interesting!

The 10 commandments one was hilarious. XD

LOL, well, actually I found that post via metafandom -- I've never seen SPN in my life. (I do know who the two main guys are though, since a bunch of folks on my flist are in the fandom. Dean is hot, yo.)

I beta on occasion so I always enjoy reading about others' experiences with it. I find it challenging and rewarding -- it's time-consuming and it can be hard to balance constructive criticism with not hurting a writer's feelings (especially when you don't know the writer that well), but I love when I see a story getting better. And I really love reading the comments the writer gets. :-D
