Day 6 = 8326

Still 1700 words behind for this point on the calendar (10,000 is the day 6 goal), but man, did I just have a good jag just then.

Must...stay...seated...

I had a great first day: two days worth of words in one. They say go big early so it's not as hard later on when it gets rough, and they're right. I feel like a king now.

(Please remember this in a week or so when I'm feeling like a serf being dragged through the village square by the king's men for not paying taxes.)

I painted so much this weekend my feet swelled. I have never had my feet swell before. I will never sit on that stool in my art studio for 13 hours straight again. Well, 13 on Saturday and 8 on Sunday. I got some cool new work out of it but the feet thing was just...odd.

Well, you would think that in all of the discussions about the recent death of Michael Jackson I'd have my new Poetry Is Doomed column. I have a column forming in my head, but so far there isn't enough of a poetry slant to the issue - except that I'm hearing from a lot of poets - to justify a PID column. Back in 2001-2002 I quit my day job to pursue writing full-time. Poetry hadn't really gotten off the ground for me at that point, and I was still just the new kid from Ohio. Fortunately, I had other types of writing to fall back on...but these rejection letters from back then don't show it!

As I begin to fill out my list of featured poets for the 24-hour read, I'm noticing trends.  More women than I might have guessed.  More short poems, too.

I am also in a serious spurt of original shot-calling.  The ideas are coming hard and fast.  Trying to get about ten poems done for the 24-hour feature.  We'll see.  I have enough previously ( Read more... )

I am performing an opening ceremony poem this morning at an event at Columbus State Community College. It's mostly a panel about black men and their roles in society and so on. I mention it here because I did an edit to my most recent poem "Lamborghini Hickies (Chris Brown)" for it that has a tighter flow and removes what little cursing there was ( Read more... )
