Riza hadn't left her apartment in... days. Not since that night. Something about going beyond the door had terrified her, as if by exiting the isolation of her dark little spaces she would be forced to accept a reality that had quite literally come from her worst nightmares ( ... )

When Scar had dropped her off, she wanted to argue. Despite her fear, despite the way the air felt every time she allowed her mind to wander, she wanted to help. She wanted to protect him because everyone knew Scar was reckless and could very well get hurt, even if there were a lot of people out there helping ( ... )

After so much time alone with her grief, with only Hayate and sometimes Utena as companions, the activity of headquarters was a little overwhelming. She pushed all of this strange nervousness down - she had never been a nervous person, and this feeling was beginning to annoy her - and moved along the perimeter of the room until Mei found her.

Riza blinked at the little girl for a moment, not quite sure how to respond to her at first.

"Yes," she answered slowly. "I live here." She glanced from the girl to her little panda and offered a very wan smile in an effort to assuage the questions and concern she felt were inevitable.

"Oh, I see..." That was a pretty good idea. Though, she'd never actually come here before, so she hadn't expected people to actually stay here. She wasn't sure what she expected, maybe some really advanced rooms full of strange machines and loud beeps and lots of blinking lights of so many colors it was impossible to name them all, but people living in those rooms were just as good ( ... )

[Byakuya does not like corpses. He doesn't like walking corpses. He doesn't like walking corpses trying to attack him and anything else that moves. He likes it even less when it's freezing outside, when there are children in tow or a bothersome human who knows the situation, yet makes it complicated by knowing more than he does.

But he can get over it. He's only taking a moment of reprieve, picking up reports from the refugees before he goes back out. Hopefully... alone this time and there won't be anyone to bring back.

The captain remains in the entrance hall, suppressing that thin aura of power he'd been using to keep himself from doing something as ridiculous as shivering to warm up more naturally, listening to the small conversations that occur all around him.]

[After the children are safely shepherded inside, he walks cautiously over to Byakuya, glancing at him and away as if trying to find words. Polite, appropriate ones, anyway.]

I don't think we did too bad.

Of course not. [It's an automatic response--after all, he had seen to it that everything went as smoothly as possible. A little difficult considering what they had to work with, but well enough.]

However, there is no time to congratulate yourself.

Don't worry, I'm not. I think I'll rest for a few minutes, then head back out.

You just weren't as bad to work with as I thought, 's all.

Thankfully, Utena had been at the head quarters anyway, checking on Riza and bringing her some food. She had avoided most of the zombie rabble outside. Before the barrier had been placed she had patrolled and kept them at bay. They had a nasty habit of clawing at windows and doors.

Utena had not been thrilled with this new development. Did they really need zombies in this place? Really?

The barrier, whatever Kaien did to create it, was holding quite well. Now she could relax and put her sword away. She plopped down on a couch to take a breather.

[Leon is slouched, with absolutely horrid posture, in the most comfortable place he can find, which is a wooden armchair. He's either resting with his eyes closed or sleeping very lightly, it's hard to tell.

Want to poke him and find out?]

[Of course, Quatre will poke.]

Leon!

[Look, it is a tiny one, bundled in a white scarf and bloody jacket and a pair of gloves too big for his hands. He looks happy to have found Leon, though.]

[His eyes jerk open-- maybe he was half-asleep -- and then regard Quatre with a grim smile.]

Hey. Glad to see you're all right.

you mean Leon can smile?! jk jk sandrocker July 7 2010, 03:53:49 UTC
[Quatre shrugs and takes a seat near Leon, pulling his gloves off. His hands probably look smaller now.]

Zombies are easy targets.

[When Quatre enters the headquarters, it's incredibly late at night, and the barrier has been up for some time. He isn't exhausted, so to speak, but he is fatigued from the cold; his winter clothing (a scarf, thin jacket and pair of pants, gloves too big for his hands, and a pair of useless goggles) hasn't really shielded him from the cold. So there comes a point even he realizes he has to seek rest. (Plus, it will probably make David stop worrying so much.)

...which in this case means strictly "not blowing zombie brains out." He considers napping, but instead, Quatre looks for people he knows...and his commander. He can nap later.]
