I was listening to Iron Butterfly's In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida again, and when looking up the lineup for the song, found that Ron Bushy, the drummer who's clearly feeling that song so much in that video and pouring his heart and soul into his drums, passed away last year, on August 29 2021 ( Read more... )

I recently looked at Kanadische Erzählungen, a book of Canadian Tales, and wasn't entirely surprised to find something Icelandic in it (Canada has seen some immigration from Iceland, particularly in Manitoba, and there particularly in Gimli).

I just learned that Golden Earring may have ended their long and illustrious career, due to George Kooymans, one of the band's founders and still an active member, being seriously ill.

That's a real shame. Golden Earring isn't (wasn't) only the world's oldest still-active band - originally having been founded in 1961, making them older even than ( Read more... )

It is my learned opinion that Bubbi (that is, Bubbi Morthens) is an absolute genius, one of the greatest singer-songwriters who has ever lived; but he only works in Icelandic, and as a result is virtually unknown outside Iceland.
