I stumbled across Leverage thanks to TV Tropes. It was an example for something and I clicked the link to its page. The description sounded intriguing enough that I sought out the first episode. I ended up mainlining all of it within about two or three days.
It follows Nathan Ford, a former insurance investigator, who ends up leading a band of thieves as they...pick up where the law leaves off by helping various little guys who have been screwed over by the big guys. There's Sophie, the grifter who is gorgeous and a talented actor-when it's a con-and a terrible actor when it isn't; there's Hardison, the proudly nerdy ("age of the geek, baby") computer whiz; there's Parker, the thief, plain and simple-who is Crazy Awesome and probably the best in the world; and there's Eliot, the "retrieval specialist", aka the rather brilliant hitter.
It's such a fun, well-done show. I love the cons, but I really love how the characters interact. The way the team forms and the dynamics build is just nicely accomplished, and I love how Hidden Depths sneak out now and then from various characters. Like Eliot, the muscle of the group, being a great chef and playing chess, or Hardison, the computer nerd, being a great painter. Also, they actually know how to do season-long arcs really well, and considering the number of shows I've watched that have managed to fuck up way shorter arcs, I find that very impressive. I tend to think it's a pretty underrated skill.
Basically, everything about this show is well-considered and just entertaining, and I think everyone should watch; it's awesome.
