Looking at Orlando, standing in his clothes that were anything but clean, and he had one of the hospital gowns under his jacket as they had cut the one he had been wearing, it made me look at myself and my clothes didn't look that good either. I didn't think I would want to show me outside, but we needed to get home for a change so there was not much else to do.
Outside the hospital Orlando hailed a cab, and we probably wouldn't be taken if we had been anywhere else. Sitting in the cab I went through my purse to see if I had my notebook, as I had written down the number of my friend I was suppose to meet.
"What time is it?" I asked, when I needed to know what I missed and had to do.
Orlando looked down at his wrist and his watch, shaking it. "I don't know, it looks like my watch has stopped, it might have been broken when it hit the street."
"It's half past eleven." The cab driver told us.
I'd lost almost three hours of those I had planned to work, and I knew I would need at least six or seven to be able to have it almost finished. To do it, I would have to change the time I was meeting my friend, or even cancel the meeting until the next day, as I couldn’t go home yet. The work had to come first, so I really needed to get hold of her.
"What are you looking for?" Orlando asked me.
I looked up as I draw the notebook forward. "This. I had planned to meet another friend this evening, but I have to try to see if we can change that as I have to work."
"Love, must you work? It's Saturday and you have had that severe migraine."
"I have to, it was why I came here in the first place. I need the money. If it goes well I will hopefully get more work and then get a better economy, so I can travel more."
I was back to searching through my bag again. I always seemed to put too much in it, so I could never find what I was looking for right away. The things always seemed to lie in the bottom. I found my cell phone and switched it open to find it was dead. I most have forgotten to charge it.
"Damn!" I looked up at the cab driver, "How long is it until we reach the hotel?"
"We're almost there, Madam." he said.
"You can use mine if you want." Orlando said and took his out of his jacket pocket and held it out to me.
I took it and dialled the number I had for my friend. It rang several times, but she didn't answer and I got to her voice mail. I left a message telling her that I would try to call her later and said I was sorry that we were needed to change our meeting. After I finished I gave the phone back to Orlando.
The cab slowed down as we reached my Hotel. I went out, expecting Orlando to stay and continue to his place, though he came after me. Outside I had to put my fingers at my temples as I felt of the bright light.
"Still feeling of your migraine?" Orlando asked me with his soothing voice.
"Yeah, and I will do it more or less… probably for another day or so." I rubbed my temples some more. I remembered that I got a prescription of some medicine. "Shoot."
"What is it now?" Orlando turned towards me.
"We should have taken the way past a pharmacy, the doctor wrote out some pills that I think I need to take now." I had forgotten it as I was happy to just leave the hospital, but as I relaxed I felt that I still had after-affects, and wasn't content with the feeling knowing I could not just lie down.
"Then we'll do it now, there is one not far away. Get in the cab again."
It had taken a moment for me to react that Orlando was saying something. "Sorry what did you say?"
"I said that we can take the cab to the nearest pharmacy and fix the prescription for you, I don't want you to be in any pain."
I looked back and forth and then followed Orlando back into the cab. He was correct that it was close to one. He asked the cab driver to wait. He followed me to the desk for prescription medicine and then left me in privacy. After I handed my prescription to the pharmacist and waited for my pills, I turned to see what Orlando was doing. He walked between the aisle and if I didn't see wrong he picked a few things.
"Here Miss is your medication," I was drawn back to the pharmacist. I took the bag and paid for it. I did it even if I would have wanted to be spared from it, but knowing that I had no control over any attack and needed the help I just did it.
Orlando was standing at the door, waiting with a bag for his own.
"What did you purchase?" I asked him as I was little curious.
"A bottle of liniment for my back, and some painkillers."
"Does your back bother you much?" when I asked, I realised he hadn't told me how he was feeling. If I hadn't been afraid of causing him pain, I would have put my hand on his back.
"I'll live. It isn't like it is the first time I've have back pains." He put his arm around me protectively. My heart jumped more from habit than that I actually liked it.
"Do you want me to help you rub in some of the liniment when we are back at the hotel?" I really wanted to help him and one part probably didn’t want him to leave just yet.
"It would be nice, but I'm still okay from the one I got at the hospital, so can I come back to you for it?"
"I think so." When we were outside I looked around, not sure what was expected. I turned to Orlando, "How do we get to the Hotel? Is it right or left?"
Orlando smiled, "You don't need to bother. We take the taxi we arrived in. He knew the way."
I felt dense, I had forgotten we had taken the cab and that Orlando told the diver to wait. It wasn't the first time it happened to me. Every since I had the operation there where times I just forgot small things, but often I was reminded by something so I could correct it.
It didn't take long before we were back to the hotel. Orlando went out and as I started to walk into the hotel he called me to stop. Waiting I saw that he paid the taxi and then came to me.
"We never decided when we should meet. When will we do it? Later today?" he said and put his hand on my arm.
I looked down to where it rested. He had such nice long fingers and that perfect tanned skin. It was so obvious how pale I was and had the Nordic skin. I wasn't the one that liked to lie in a solarium or in the sunshine. I would probably not have any problem with it, but it was a habit for me to stay in the shade. Before the operation the bright light had often triggered a headache.
I swallowed and then put my own hand over his and for a few seconds took pleasure in the warmth that came from him. I moved my eyes to his mixture of deep rich chocolate and seasoned mahogany that I had been missing for so long. I was sure he didn't know what they made me feel.
"I think you definitely do not feel well." Orlando stated.
I blinked and decided to do something I would have not done a few days ago. I leaned forward and rose to my toes and kissed him on his lips. It took a moment before he responded and opened his mouth so our tongues could meet. I moved my hand from his and put it behind his neck. When we stopped I let my head rest on his shoulder. His arms had sneaked their way around me and we stood just holding each other.
"I've missed you so much." Orlando whispered in my ear.
"I've missed you too." I said towards his chest, not caring if he didn't hear it.
Time didn't matter I just loved having him holding me, but I did know we could not stand there all day. With sad feelings I let go of him. When I tried to take a step back he loosened his hold as well.
"Orlando, can't you come up with me to my room and so that we can sit and talk?"
"I'd love to."
We entered the Hotel and as we walked to my room Orlando let his hand rest on my back. It felt good and safe so I let him without quicken my steps.
