John is editor for a university newspaper and Rodney has to hand in an article before the deadline to replace the one he wrote on the Riemann hypothesis and the story about Yang-Mills existence and the mass gap. It should be something that interests him and the average student alike. So he starts an anonymous gay sex advice column 'Not exactly rocket science' which turns out to be a big hit.
It also turns out to be something that gets John and Rodney talking about Rodney's virginity problem. By the end of the story this problem is thoroughly solved.
'John never thought of Rodney that way (except when he did)' (5,400 words, John/Rodney, NC-17)
Rodney stoned out of his mind by some alien weed, which results in Rodney's hands and biceps and mouth and good solid body, all over John, who really tries to keep it within certain limits. It's Rodney's ass that does him in though. Delicious fic.

In this fic they all get what they want and then some, they're all equally treasured and loved, no one gets left behind. It's hot as hell, with a whole list of things that I find particularly horny. Very squirm-worthy, yet satisfying at the same time.

This fic has everything I could ever wish for in fps, and more. It's right there up in my list of best fics I have ever read in any fandom ever. Everything I want to say about why I love this fic, is a spoiler. It made me laugh out loud, moved me to tears, made me smile, it's filled with recognizable everyday problems and joys, but never gets overly dramatic just for angst's sake, because the fic doesn't need it. Do yourself a favour, and read it (again).

19 year old Rodney is a geeky kid who would rather spend his weekend playing with the shiny supercomputer at the university than party. When he's literally shoved out of the building, he sulks around at a frat party and proceeds to get very drunk with a guy dressed as a princess with a tiara. The next day he ends up tutoring a whole bunch of guys in math, just so he can spend more time with the guy who's of course John.
It takes a while for Rodney to figure out John is actually a damn clever guy, and John figures out a way to spend time with the computer and have some private partying.

Warning for non-explicit medical procedures.
Rodney in a coma due to some mishap on an alien planet and John beats himself up over what he could have done and should have said and done. In the meantime the cure to whatever happened to Rodney is so obvious it's almost shameful they didn't try it and it's typically Cesperanza.
With added art by lim. These two keep on inspiring and complimenting each other in such a delightful way.

'Pointy hats and P90s' (2,500 words, SGA/Merlin crossover, Gen, PG)
A clever and fun fic in which the SGA team visits a place where accidentally using the ATA gene is mistaken for magic, so John gets captured and is threatened to be put to death. I specifically love this very considerate and gracious Arthur, clever John finding a way to sneak some good advice to Merlin and Merlin not letting it go to waste.

John is not so straight as Rodney thinks he is and Rodney is not so straight as either one of them think. It's one of those fics where you want to step in so you can point out what's plain to see. They figure it out themselves though...
There are some really hot scenes in there, especially one scene where John tries to draw out the moment as long as possible because he thinks it's the only chance he'll get; I didn't know whether to melt or explode.
'Do over' (19,300 words, John/Rodney, John/others implied, NC-17)
Rodney very conveniently lives just down the corridor from John, which he would enjoy more if that didn't mean he'd notice that John gets a lot of action with a lot of people that are not him. He can't help nagging John about this, until John promises Rodney to have good sex with him once if Rodney will leave him alone after. Lots of bad sex ensues.

If I had to pick a favorite 'teenagers in love' fic, I think I'd go for this one. John and Rodney meet at a hotel where they're on holiday with their families.
I love the immediate click and how Rodney relishes his slowly growing crush on John. How it doesn't occur to him that he could actually do something about it or that John might feel the same way and is trying to get that across in his own awkward way. When it finally does happen there is no stopping them going at it like the proverbial horny teenagers they are. It's all so completely sweet and it makes me nostalgic in a good way.

Happy drunk John makes Rodney happy, and a happy Rodney never fails to make me happy, so I ended up rereading specific sentences in this ficlet while grinning until my cheeks hurt.

But it all started with this ficlet, and so far it's the only thing I've actually read and feel the need to rec. The rest is more a pointing out thing for those interested (and I'll be sure to go there at some point too).
'Destiny revisited' (2,600 words, Merlin/SGA crossover, Arthur/Merlin, John/Rodney, PG-13)
Going from incarnation to incarnation, Merlin crosses paths with Arthur again, this time as Rodney and John. An incredibly clever fic that weaves both series in a way that it seems like this is actually what happened, and by the end I was all choked up. Meant to be times two.

A gentle and sensitive fic about this young Japanese woman, who treasures her memories of the culture where she didn't quite fit in, and tries to find a place in this new life, where she's also just that bit different from the others. It moved me to tears, but also made me smile.
Note: there are several sequels now that I haven't read yet. All are linked from one fic to the next.

Future-fic. Mirabile takes melancholy and makes it sweet. It's a bit of a 'if you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with' fic, in which this actually works out peachy.

This fic reads like a trip. The lovely, leisurely pace, the dreamlike quality of the scene it's working towards, and the mellow way in which the night wraps afterward. Very sensual, and it leaves you satisfied and craving a joint.

Aliens make them do it, with a twist. Watching John and Rodney through Ronon's eyes. A story that's told sweetly and slowly, to the point that it almost makes the reader impatient (like it does Ronon) but the pay-off is so worth it!

Rodney is a teacher who finds himself hopelessly attracted to John, an extraordinarily smart and good-looking student in his class. It's easy to sympathize with Rodney's frustration and it's fun to see the people around him react (all 'guest-roles' from fellow SGA characters) until the story seems to take an alarming turn. I don't want to spoil anything, but know that you won't be disappointed if you read until the end.
I love this story specifically for its twists and the combination of humor, seriousness and lust.

This fic combines a couple of things I'm particularly fond of in Rodney/John fics: They hook up way before Antarctica, when they're just 18 and despite their differences they bond over so much. There's sensitive, melancholic, protective John, with a fondness for ferris wheels, and there's too intelligent for his age, grown up too quickly Rodney, who needs to be taught how to have fun. They are so meant to be together.

I loved this, because I have such a thing for adolescents taking their first steps into exploring sexuality, when it's done in such a happy way as here. I love the idea that Rodney's first experience was a good one, with a guy who knew what he was doing. I like to imagine Rodney thinking back on it and getting all excited (and a little smug)

This starts with John's first steps into exploring sex. It's a little scary and exciting and secretive, but not traumatising on the one hand, nor completely perfect on the other.
It takes getting together with Rodney to find out how much more it can be, to open up to someone you trust.

I have a thing for stories where Rodney finds someone interesting who loves him the way he is, when he's already given up hope. And I love John looking right through the arrogant and tough outside, seeing the arrogant and warm inside. Plus of course John and Rodney have fantastic sex, duh...

I love how determined and unflappable John is, how he's constantly one step ahead of Rodney, who each time blinks and stumbles, just as he thinks he's caught up with John. And then Rodney takes over.
I love that moment where John is so sure of himself, almost smug, while courting, and then fumbles when he's reached his goal: John is right, courting is a way to something, but why not sit back and enjoy the ride too?
There's some grrrreat kissing in there too.

When I'd finished the story, I couldn't even cry, but I felt shattered into tiny little pieces and no way to get them back together again.
The story is absolutely brilliant, which is exactly why it affected me the way it did, but it hit a little too close to home: surviving the one you love is my biggest fear, and I doubt I could take it the way Rodney does in this story.

And that's exactly what I get from this fic where they turn to each other while on Earth because neither fits in there, but it doesn't really matter because they know where they do belong. And I absolutely adore the kind of lover Rodney is in this.

John trying to draw Rodney out of an endless AU loop and each time having to start all over again. A rollercoaster ride of emotions and by the way a stunning job by the writer, to come up with all these different stories. Two warnings though: don't read when you're already feeling melancholic and keep tissues handy.

Post 'The Shrine'. John has a hard time showing just how much he's falling apart. Rodney has a hard time figuring out how to deal with that. With painful sex and healing sex. Plor broke me and put me back together again and I loved it.

In this story John is a teacher and an adult, and Rodney is a 17 year old student in his class. Rodney is smart and obnoxious and flirts relentlessly with John, who has a very hard time not giving in.
A very passionate story that made my heart ache for Rodney when it becomes clear that it can't be and for John who had to be the responsible one.
And I can't tell you how happy I was with the fourteen months after Rodney's graduation bit at the end of the fic.

Some of the writers in this fandom fix what the writers on the show break, so I was very pleased with this lovely little Halloween fic, that's both Rodney/John and a team-fic. It made me laugh and rated PG it still made my toes curl.
'Not quite Benjamin Braddock' (2,000 words, John/Rodney, Rodney/Jennifer, PG)
Did I mention they are meant to be? That kind of gives the outcome away, but avid McSheppers wouldn't read it otherwise, and avid McKellers would be disappointed if they did, so it's best to know up front imho. It's one of velocitygrass's 'pining John and oblivious Rodney with a hopeful ending' fics that she does so well.

John and Rodney being bored together, until Rodney inadvertently outs himself by quoting a comic.

Ronon thinks he's doing pining John and oblivious Rodney a favour by keeping them trapped on a planet for a couple of days with just some supplies and one sleepingbag. Funny, touching and hot.
'Worth fighting for' (15,300 words, Jennifer/Rodney pre-het, John/Rodney, NC-17)
There are several things in this fic that I don't usually like reading (jealousy, angst, competing) and now I didn't just love it, I needed it. I needed to see John not give up on Rodney, fight for him, court him, work his charm for him. And I believe this Rodney, who has trouble dealing. It's a given that when written well, like here, I love Rodney to bits, but this fic had my heart bleeding for John. And it was so incredibly satisfying to see him succeed!
'Amelia and Anne' (4,600 words, Amelia Banks/Anne Teldy, G)
This is so heartwarming, so lovely, taking those first steps into getting to know each other, carefully checking if they're reading each other right, if this could be something more. Two women clicking, becoming friends, caring and courting. I love the way it made my stomach flutter in anticipation.

Yep, that's Katie as in Katie Brown, established relation, but not explicit and it'll be John/Rodney, very explicit, trust me.
Rodney is comfortably satisfied with how things are going with his life; he's got a good job and a nice fiancée, things are going according to plan. Until he meets John Sheppard, who offers him a whole different future, not so comfortable but a whole lot more satisfying.
Oh, and I really need to point out the title graphic that sonadorita made for the story; it's fantastic

Rodney's father is paying John to be Rodney's friend. Rodney is not inclined to play along and John makes clear that 'friend' does not equal 'servant'. In short, they don't really have a good start. It gets better of course when it turns out that spending time together isn't actually all that bad, and then it gets way better. Especially when it turns out they've got something in common.
