Kaiman dropped the arms when the noise echoed through the forest, shuddering a little. Despite all appearances, Kaiman was actually very easily spooked.

"H-HIEEEEHHHHHH! W-what was that? G-g-ghosts?" He looked up, pulling two straight knives, more like small swords, from holsters on his legs. His eyes searched the sky, catching sight of the odd creatures.

"Are those... FLYING SNAKES?! Oh come on! Give us a fucking break!"

He hated snakes. Creepy crawly poisonous things.... He scrambled out of the water and steeled himself.

This was no time to be afraid. It was time to cut these bastards into ribbons.

Of course, he secretly hoped they were friendly and just wanted to bring them snacks or something for their hard work. Oh, he wished so hard. But he had his knives at the ready, eyes focused behind the gasmask.

[[OOC: a minor note, there is no bridge - it's rocks to jump across.]]

The first wave was roughly ten to twenty strong. They fluttered all around the group like a flock of vultures before spiraling downward, wings flapping loudly and tails whipping in the wind while the sound of a hiss was all that was heard before a sharp snap of a fanged mouth came deadly close to their ears.

Some dove straight down, some came in from an angle, some circled and circled, screeching urges to the more aggressive ones.

They aimed mainly at the group's extremities... the hands that had been carrying bodies and now gripped weapons, as if they could smell the defilement...

Or were smart enough to have noticed on their own...

Kanda was aware, in the back of his mind, of the location of his two companions-both a little behind him since he had been the first to jump forward-and he knew they had drawn their weapons as well (the woman had guns, and he made a mental note to avoid stepping into her line of fire), and even though he'd scowled deeply at Kaiman's startled scream, he didn't have time to bother to make a comment now. He just hoped that the big man would hold his own in the fight-Kanda sure as hell wasn't interested in going to go rescuing anyone who couldn't take care of themselves ( ... )

"Don't complain. Just try to stay alive!" Selene chided the lizard as she sprung into action.

There were many snakes, and she hadn't thought to bring an extra clip. She anticipated danger in the jungle, yes. There was always danger in the jungle. But she hadn't anticipated an entire swarm of flying beasts to descend upon them. Twelve bullets, two guns. She couldn't be willy-nilly about this like she usually was. It meant a moment or two of extra time for aiming before she fired, and it was that kind of pacing that she despised in a battle. Battles were supposed to be fast and fierce, not steady and careful ( ... )
