Two swiped by a sword. Six with bullets in their brains. Three and then one used to knock two more from their.

The last two appeared dazed, but not fazed. That meant six were still flapping around in the air, trying to find an opening to attack.

One hung all the way at the top of the treeline, making tight circles and then figure-8 loops. Like it was debating something. And then it took off, back from whence it came, chittering all the while.

Practically before the first two he'd killed had even fallen to the ground, kanda had already doubled the number. They were easy to dipense with, their scales providing no armor at all against his blade and these two had slowed enough momentarily to make them absurdly easy targets.

But Kanda had also noticed the one that was hanging back, keeping its distance from them, and he didn't like the looks of it. Grabbing a low hanging tree limb with one hand and pushing off from the trunk, he leaped up into the branches, dashing from one to the next, but even as fast as he was he still didn't get to the snake before it had spun around and headed back the way it came. Well, if it was going to get its brethren, so be it. Nothing could be done about it now. And at least his new vantage point put him in the thick of the snakes that remained.

Blade whipping through the air practically as fast as a spinning top, he jumped down from the trees sure that he would take out at least a few of them before he even reached the ground.

Two bullets left. She hated when this happened, and it happened far more often than she would like. If only she had a larger chest, she could just keep a clip or two hidden there. But this was not the time to dwell on her lack of ammunition or her breast size. One of the beasts was heading back toward the temple, and something in her gut told her that it was not a signal of retreat.

She cursed under her breath, squeezing the last two bullets off into the nearest snake to bring it crashing down again. She pushed the guns back into her belt, and snatched up the dagger out of her boot in one swift motion. Guns or no, she wasn't going down without a fight.

Selene angled her head up toward Kanda, calling up to him. "It's probably going to get more. Try to count them before they get back here and relay it back."

Kaiman kept an eye on the one who ran off. "Hey! That one's getting away!"

Kaiman tossed his knife, missing the fleeing creature by mere inches and growled ferociously when he missed. "Crap!" now he had to go and get it, and he did.

The six that remained were not going to be leaving this area alive. Kaiman jumped, using trees as a way into the air, slashing two snakes at once before falling back to the ground.

"What are we gonna do if they bring reinforcements?!"

The lone sky-snake could be seen for quite a ways over the tree-line, given where Kanda sat for a moment before coming back down.

Whether or not they could see its flight path, the scout didn't know - it headed far over the temple, to a shrine deeper in the jungle to the northwest, behind the physical boundaries of the above-ground temple, and out of sight from where any natives or non-natives had been. Ever.

The shrine actually had a giant hole in it with symbols etched all around it:
