Burn/KiSeung Yoseob had had a fairly good birthday overall. He'd gotten gifts from friends and family, had spent time with some of the people closest to him, and got nearly half a bajillion 'Happy Birthday's from everyone, including the fans. His day had started, really, at midnight the night before, when Dongwoon had made him stay up so he could be the first to wish him a happy birthday. That was so like their maknae, and he had done as much for all the others on their birthdays as well.
Yoseob's only regret was that that had been just about the only time he'd had to spend with Dongwoon for the whole day. He'd fallen into bed, exhausted, just after midnight, after receiving his first congratulations of the year, and after he'd woken he'd been busy following everyone else's schedule for him until late that night, when he'd let himself fall gracelessly into bed again. He wished he'd had more time to himself to seek out Dongwoon, to spend time with the one person he always wanted to be with during times of celebration, but as he closed his eyes, he thought to himself, there was always next year.
What felt like minutes later, but according to the clock was about an hour, Yoseob was being gently shaken awake. He blinked his eyes slowly, trying to orient himself in the dark, and a large hand slipped over his mouth to indicate he shouldn't make noise. Then the hand was gone, and another was tugging his arm gently in the direction of the door.
As silently as possible, knowing the others were light sleepers, Yoseob followed whomever had woken him out of the room. In the small light of the kitchen, Yoseob was able to recognize Dongwoon. The maknae had pulled out and prepared fruit, yogurt, and a little of the leftover birthday cake from the fridge. "Midnight snack," Yoseob practically squeaked.
"I wanted to be the last one to wish you a happy birthday," Dongwoon told the older man. "Sorry I had to wake you up to do it."
Yoseob already had a mouthful of cake as he replied, "This is the best birthday ever."
Dongwoon chuckled at his kidlike behavior. Yoseob turned to him after another bite, smiling. "I barely got to see you at all today. This is a really nice gift."
Smiling in return, Dongwoon plucked the fork from Yoseob's hand, then lifted the shorter man by his waist to seat him on the counter. Yoseob didn't struggle, but he still pulled a sour face as he said, "You guys are always picking me up! I'm not a little kid."
"Uh-huh," Dongwoon replied as he scooped up another forkful of cake. When he held it out to Yoseob, the man on the counter dropped his mouth open eagerly. Dongwoon chuckled and fed him the bite, agreeing with sarcasm, "You're not a little kid at all." He took a bite for himself.
"I'm not!" Yoseob protested. "You're the baby here."
Wiping the side of Yoseob's mouth with his thumb, Dongwoon returned, "You're the one who can't keep all the frosting in his mouth."
Yoseob pretended not to be affected as the maknae licked the frosting off his thumb. "Is that so?" Yoseob asked. He picked up a slice of melon and dipped it in the yogurt. "The way I see it, you're the one," he dabbed the fruit onto Dongwoon's cheek, "getting his food everywhere."
"Yah!" Dongwoon pulled away from the attacking fruit. But he was too late; a dollop of the white yogurt was still on his skin.
Yoseob ate the melon, laughing at Dongwoon. The next moment, he cried out in surprise as he, too, was dolloped by a piece of fruit and yogurt. He tried to catch Dongwoon off guard with a new piece, but found himself in need of defending agains the cake Dongwoon had grabbed and was trying to attack his face with. He had a hand around Dongwoon's wrist, and Dongwoon had one around his own. They struggled brefly before Yoseob pulled Dongwoon's hand to his face and ate the frosted part of the cake, rendering his "weapon" useless. Laughing, Dongwoon tried to grab a new piece, but in his distraction he left himself open to Yoseob's attack to his other cheek.
The pair cut their laughter short when Doojoon suddenly stepped into the room. They released each others' wrists while the leader made his way to the fridge and got himself some water.
"It's like quarter 'til midnight," Doojoon complained. "You guys need to keep it down out here. And stop eating all the food every night. The rest of us like to have food here for when we're hungry too." With that, he went back to the bedroom.
Yoseob chuckled as he ate the fruit he still had in his grip. Reaching behind himself, he collected a paper towel and wiped off Dongwoon's cheeks. "Clean me up too," he instructed Dongwoon, handing him the paper towel.
Dongwoon considered the paper towel in his hand for a moment before placing it aside and leaning in suddenly to lick the yogurt off Yoseob's cheek.
Yoseob tried to dodge, biting back a yell of surprise, but found himself cringing against the wet sensation on his skin. "Dongwoon-ah!" he protested quietly.
"Hang on, you've got frosting on your mouth again," the younger man said before seizing Yoseob's jaw and swiping at his lips lightly with his tongue as well.
Yoseob flushed bright red, pulling away from his grip. "Gross," he muttered, but he was still laughing softly.
"No, hyung, you've still got more," Dongwoon insisted, leaning in.
This time Yoseob dodged him successfully, pushing at his chest. "Use the paper towel!"
Dongwoon wrapped his arms around Yoseob's waist, leaning between Yoseob's legs to press their chests together. "But it's tasty," he excused his behavior, then caught Yoseob's lips with his own.
At first, Yoseob considered pushing Dongwoon away, but soon he found himself leaning into the kiss, his arms sliding around Dongwoon's shoulders. When Dong woon pulled away a long moment later, Yoseob asked, "Is it gone?"
"For now," Dongwoon nodded. Smiling as he picked up another piece of fruit and fed it to Yoseob, he added, "But I'm sure there'll be more soon."
