So we had a General Election yesterday, but that's just an irrelevance ;) The important point about yesterday is that it was J's birthday :)

A day of mostly frankly boring productivity yesterday - remembered I hadn't sorted out new house insurance one day before we would've paid the extortionate rate to renew the current one (win!), moved money around to cover the deposit for the holiday (not strictly necessary, but it feels more comfortable to pad the current account buffer back up now ( Read more... )

We decided to go into town on Saturday partly coz J wanted to look at something in Waterstones, and I'd forgotten to buy a new USB stick on Thursday, and partly coz we wanted to finally get round to booking our holiday for this year. Another certificate arrived on Sat morning - Mary Robinson's death cert - and the place of residence for the informant let me track down one of her sons in 1861/71/81/91 and his family. I've been eating salads as part of my lunch for the last few months - partly because I figured I should eat some more veg. The problem with having done our food shopping on New Years Eve was that inevitably they were out of some of the things we would've liked to buy. This meant that our planned roast dinner of duck or turkey turned into a roast chicken. We had a weekend :) It mostly consisted of lots of computer games, some cake, some other tasty foods and lots of beer. Yesterday it was heavily skewed towards the Beer! end of the spectrum. Cooked something else new for dinner last night from my chinese cookery book - I think I've pretty much run out of dishes that look edible (or cookable) now.
