Started off TV night on Weds with the penultimate episode of Michael Wood's Story of England - which covered the period from Henry VIII through to the early 19th Century. Which brought it to roughly the same time period as I've got my genealogy research back to (in some cases), it shouldn't've surprised me when they talked about someone's age on ( Read more... )

New monitor arrived yesterday! :) After some dithering we decided on Tuesday that we'd just bloody order some monitors. Went for the best-selling one on amazon - Samsung SyncMaster P2450, 24" monitor that does 1920x1080 and had reasonable reviews. J got his first, and I set it up on Wednesday so I could have a play with it and see what I thought ( Read more... )

I did at least get one bit of consumerism done for the week, even if I didn't buy any of the things I was dithering about. But food processor that looked adequate & sufficiently cheap came back into stock at amazon, so I bought it. So some point after next weekend I can try some of the recipes/meals in the Jamie Oliver book. I've kinda decided ( Read more... )

It's starting to feel very Christmas-y round here - we got the decorations out on Saturday and freaked out the cat by a) constructing a tree ("so that's where trees come from? :o") and b) moving furniture around so there was space for the new tree. He's only seen us put the tree up 7 years or so, hardly any time for a cat to get the hang of this ( Read more... )

Monday night was a British Museum Friends Open Evening - so we decided to make life easier for ourselves and stay over, thus making a 2 day visit to the museum :) Started off a little late on Monday morning but still got to the museum at about 2pm. Went into London yesterday - to meet up with John & Cressa who are over from Canada on holiday at the moment (and A & P were coming along to meet them as well). Our original plan was to get up at a reasonable hour & maybe go to the museum before meeting them as we weren't meeting up till 4pm. Yesterday was Nat's 30th birthday (Ruby from Snowplains), so we headed off to Letchworth for the bbq she was having to celebrate :) After dithering for a while J decided he might as well drive, coz that would take a bit less time & be more flexible, even if he meant he wasn't gonna have a drink while we were there.
